Options on Getting An Extended Warranty

I am considering keeping my C63 in stock form. If so this is a secondary car for me not my primary. The car will recive about 5k-8k miles per year. That said, I was considering an extended warranty. I would want something with low miles and many years, say like 7 years / 100k miles.
That is just an example, I have no idea what is out there.

Does MB offer a EW back up by MB or is everything aftermarket?

lastly, do I even need a EW? Is the cost far more that the risk ?

+ 1. Getting a EW on my C32 was more then worth it but that was back in the day of daimler chrysler when quality was pretty bad. At the time one of the Internet Forums was promoting a great deal from a MB dealer in Chico CA. Ended up saving about 50% from what my local dealer was charging for the EW. I wonder if there are still any dealers out there offering discounted EW's?

By the way, it was a MBUSA EW that added 4 years and up to 100K miles. I don't know if they still even offer this or not.

I'm pretty sure MBUSA has a EW but for a hefty price... I believe I inquired about the pricing and didn't consider it. And BTW this will also be my secondary car, which most likely will have low miles for a number of yrs.

MBUSA does not offer the 4 year anymore. They only offer 3 year/100,000 miles.

Have a 4 year/100,000 added to one car, which now has a total of 8 years/100,000 miles and a 3 year/100,000 added to another car which now has a total of 7 year/100,000 miles. It's good piece of mind for $2K to $3K.

Be sure to get the Mercedes Extended Warranty. Don't get one not from the manufacture.

everything and anything
Glock,
I would consider getting an EW with any car I would purchase especially on Mercedes or BMW products. If I'm not mistaken and I'm sure one of our board members could correct me on this. I believe if you want a Mercedes extended warranty you will need to get it done in the first year of your car ownership. They are worth every penny

Now on a different note and I'm sorry if I'm leading the thread on a different direction. How do you like your C63? I mean when you were looking to get it did you consider any other cars, particularly the M3? I know you mentioned that the C63 is a second car for you. I'm in the same situation where my next car purchase is a second car, basically a weekend toy. I drove the M3 and yesterday managed to get some wheel time behind a C63. Both are wonderful creations

Just wanted to hear what you had to say on the matter

Additional as in add to, correct. So the best I can do from MB is 6 years / 75K right?

the extended warranty (called Extended Limited Warranty -- ELW) MB backs and sells is virtually identical to the CPO warranty. you have to buy up years beyond the 1year/50k miles extension. a few thoughts:

- my service advisor has told me always go with an MB backed warranty. i have heard aftermarket ones can use refurbed parts and non OEM parts if they choose. but then again there are people on these forums who have had ok experiences with aftermarket warranties, so i would do more research in this premise.

- my stealer tried to sell me the ELW on the day of purchase (august 2007) and showed me a price sheet that was something like 50% higher than the PUBLISHED prices on the mbusa website at the time. at the time, one could buy the ELW anytime during the factory warranty period, although there would be progressive penalties after 12k/1year.

- the current website says that you can NOT buy the ELW after 12k/1yr at all.

- i would call the mercedes customer service number (well, i did in fact) to get the real scoop on the ELW and it's limitations.

I asked about this on Monday and my dealer said they still allow you to buy the EW within 12K/1yr w/o penalty. They are pretty expensive now days - about $1K more then what I paid for on my C32 (and it's now for one less year). I think MBUSA was getting hammered on warrenty expenses in 2001-2004 so they are making up for it by charging more for less of a EW.

It was definetly worth it on my C32 - but then again.........MBUSA commercials say this gen C class is the "most tested benz in history"....
