P 394 Owners Manual, Approved Engine Oils

Do I have an outdated manual or does it say only 0w-40 and 5w-40 SAE oils may be used in the C63, noted under footnote 51?

Motul 5-40 otw.

As far as I know, that is correct, and the only 229.5 oil that is approved for AMG is Mobil 1 0w-40 and Perhaps Valvoline Synthetic 5w-40 and 20w-50, but I have heard that the Valvoline oils are not 229.5 / AMG approved, perhaps someone can clarify (Wolfgang's page conflicts with Valvoline's website, and the 20w-50 is suspicious).

How can a SAE 5w-40 oil be approved if Mobil 0w-40 is the only oil we can run?
I'm switching either way as I don't like 230 deg oil temps in 85F weather.

It may be that as of now, M1 0w-40 is the only oil that has AMG approval, not to say other oils cannot be approved.

Hey there MHP:

Keep in mind that oil temps are ALWAYS higher than water temps. 230 is absolutely NOTHING to worry about. Synthetics can handle temps in the low 500's without breaking a sweat. Watch a Nascar, or ILR temps and you will see they are routinly in the 300 plus temps. So relax my friend, you have nothing to fear, atleast about your oil temp

See yeah
