Good news / bad news
I got the car yesterday (good news), but the check engine light came on today @ 80 miles (bad news). They have it in the shop now and are waiting for it to cool off so they can check for a "major fuel system leak". :-(

Sucks to hear. That is unacceptable for a brand new $70K car. Our C needed power steering replaced at 400 miles(not a typo!) so I kinda know how you feel.

Damn, that sucks, I wonder if this problem is only on C63 models or if this problem also arises on the other AMG 63 models? As far as I know you are not the first C63 driver with this technical difficulty. Anyway, sorry to hear that.

It is indeed sad when you hear stories like this.
I read read on the amgforums.com that there was a guy who blew an engine
after just 5000 kms and another that broke his LSD after 4000 kms.
I hope that these are just some rare incidents.

At the end of the day it is a mechanical piece. So they can fail at any time. Even new honda's and toyota's have issues on new cars. Im not saying its ok but you have to gage how many issues you have in a short time. Over all I think it has been good. But you need to search the forms to see for sure.
Still im sorry to hear that bro but dont let it eat you up.

A lot of people appear to be having this problem. I bet that the problem is user error.
It's gotta be people's unfamiliarity with the gas cap.
I had this problem a few years back with my fx45. The check engine light went off and I took it to the dealership. They noted that the gas cap was not completely sealed.
My bud said that you could tighten the gas cap and run it through a cycle or refresh your ECU.
... But then again, it may not be the cap.

Search around - there was one guy who had this over and over and it was something the dealer would never replace following normal process. On the other hand, one guy had his dealer fill up his first tank of gas and not close the cap all the way.
Good luck!

UPDATE: As of 6 pm tonight, they called to say they exhausted the necessary steps to contact MB TAC (tech. assistance center) who told them it may be "a manufacturing defect". Their next step is to verify all associated wiring for loose connections/issues, and after that is a new ECU from Germany. So I may be without the car for a week or more after owning it for 22 hours.
I called my salesman and he is having his GM call the location where its being serviced (different store, same owner) and make sure it is being escalated. MBUSA will also be contacting both dealers. After trading in my beloved, custom order 911 for the C63, this is leaving a very sour taste in my mouth for all things MB. If quality is Job #1 at Ford (old commercial), its evidently Job #398721 at MB.

Hard to have a gas cap problem when it wasn't removed.
As I said I had EIGHTY MILES on the car. No need for a fill up yet. ![smash](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/smashfreak.gif)

gravedgr - sorry about the new car buzzkill. I'm feeling lucky my CE light at 60 miles was so minor (cam position sensor)
3500 miles now no further problems.

Before you put up a graphic calling me goofy... did you ever ponder th emagical question of.. HOW DID THAT GAS GET INTO YOUR 80 MILE OLD CAR?
It does not ship with a full tank on the boat.
The other people who had this problem... the porter who PUT THAT GAS into the car didn't tighten it.
You're welcome for me trying anyhow.

I forgot to provide an update. They called this morning to say they were still working on the wiring issue, and that the TAC had instructed them to verify the main wiring harness in the engine bay. They also said they still weren't approved to order a replacement ME unit.
They called back just before 6 pm and said they had a long call with the regional SPON. He agreed that it was likely going to be the ME that was the final resolution. So even though they weren't authorized to order one yet, they decided to do so anyhow to avoid additional delays since it will take a day or two for it to arrive.
Hopefully I'll know something more definitive tomorrow.

UPDATE: I got a call today from my salesman. He had his Service Director on the phone off an on all day with the tech at the other store. The ME unit arrived and they installed it, and it seems to have resolved the problem. The reassembled everything and test drove the car to verify as well as ran the usual computer tests. The service rep at the other store called and said if all goes well, they'll take it tomorrow to be washed and detailed again and I should be able to pick it up around lunch time.

Well, I got the car back today just before lunch. The SA and service director both were there to answer any questions and were very, very polite (possibly due to calls from the GM and MBUSA). Overall, it seems fine and I hope the CEL doesn't come back. They're going to mail me the final paperwork as they were still entering it when I got the car (I think its 4 pages worth).
I'll try to get some pictures tomorrow since so many people have asked about seeing the Capri Blue.
