C63 steering effort

My dad coming from an X5 likes his steering a bit heavy. How would you rate the steering effort and feel on the C63? ( He wants a C63)

Had the X54.8is and I like my steering heavily weighted; the C63 fits the bill for sure.

I have a X5 4.8is and the steering while not that heavy is pretty firm
with that HUGE 6,2008 CC motor over the front wheels. He will like it.

I would guess his steering would be lighter if he has the 3.0 or the 4.4
Even with the 4.8is I took off my 20" and put on 18" winter tires and that
lightened it up too. The 4.8is Had the M suspension and I dont know how
that changed it compared to your dads truck.

I find that the SUV has a totaly different steering feel, to compare a SUV with a sedan is odd, much less a SUV and the C63. But I guess if you are just comparing steering feel its like you will love it or hate it. (My guess is he will love it) The C63 is like driving on tracks if you know what a mean.

Actually the X5 is the best handling SAV I have ever driven. I have Driven the Porsche Cayenne GTS and the X5 4.8is, which has the M suspension on it, is very close to it. They are as good as a good sports sedan (not in the class of the AMGs) I drive it hard and its fun to drive. Thats why I have it.
But the X5 aint that far out of the park PLUS he was asking about the heaviness of it and I understood immediately what he meant.

If he was asking about a Suburban then yes not much to compare.
But the X5 4.8is or the Cayenne is a valid question.

I know what you mean, I have driven the X3 and X5, and like the X5 a lot, I still like the handling of ML better, (I'm partial to Benz) but its hard to compare with a sedan, even the ML, although it handles excellent its just different, I guess is the weight thing.

My dad has a 3.0i with 4.8is wheels. Quite heavy indeed!

What I like!
The steering is kind of light at parking lot speeds for easy manuevering but it firms up a lot at high speeds. It is the most noticable "variable" power steering I have felt.

We are starting liking the ML too. In fact I am trying to start talking the
wife into the AMG. But for now the X5 will be more than enough.

Our ML 430 was really sweet, less expensive then X5 (lots of room for both of GSD's) the X5 has less cargo space, in fact the X3 had more cargo space then the X5 go figure, the X5 gets some really good reports, but.....I still like my benz, I can only imagine what would be driven a ML 63

The steering feel in the 63 is a little too light for my taste. My 330ci felt much better and had a heavier steering feel.

Having had the ML63 for a year, the X5 4.8is was still a better driver's car IMHO. Turn in was a little quicker and body roll a little less pronounced in the X5 4.8is; the ML63 had gobs of torque. In the end, you can't overcome the high center of gravity completely. BTW, I had winters on both (Vredensteins) and they were both great in the snow.

Interesting - I let my friend who owns a 335i coupe drive the C63 precisely because I was so impressed with the steering in the C63. He was blown away. And when I was chasing him around in his 335i and got back into my C63, I thought - WOW - what a difference in feel, feedback and turn in -

He and I agreed that the 335i has awesome steering dynamics, but the C63 was just a bit better in all respects.

Coming from the C55, the C63 is much nicer (a bit lighter and slower speeds). The C55 was too heavy...it made the car feel heavier than it really is. Artificially heavy. The steering weight of the C63 is PERFECT, IMO. Turn in is outstanding!
