Hooley boy that was the one of the most common sense posts I have seen in a long time on this board. Check this out FOR that SAME 10K for a puny exhaust
Let me repeat a PUNY exhaust for a 65K car You can buy a 3.8 liter HOP up kit for a Porsche 911 GT3 RS 3.6 liter motor. For another 3 K you get labor.
thats a SICK Deal!! whats called in the auto business a GOOD DEAL!!!!
for a 140K car not for a car that costs less than half
10K for a puny exhaust for a 60K is just sick.

As far as exhaust systems go - assuming equal quality and materials, I would assume an eight-cylinder, front-engined vehicle w/ a dual exhaust set-up would cost more than a 6-cylinder rear-engined dual exhaust; however, that might just be me.

It also might have something to do with ease of manufacture and access.
C32AMG have you spent time in the engine bay of a 911? making an exhaust for that car with mufflers and Cats on either side and a resonance center box is VERY difficult. I think doing an exhaust for a standard V8 setup thats been around since the 1950s (V8 in front exhaust running under to the back) might be a tad bit easier thus lowering costs to manufacture.
If it it costs you 10 bucks to make you dont charge 20,000 dollars because your market is smaller.
And I will disagree with your market segment sizes. There were a total of around 1000 GT3s and maybe 500 GT3 RSs sent to North Amercia.
Cost of a one example of an exhaust for those cars was $1500.
I am going to have to agree with you on the MSRP of the car. So far my experience with 3 $100K+ Porsche 911s is that those are far less expensive to modify than a $65K Mercedes. And you get more for it in the Porsche.

I dyno my C32 at Fabspeed - as you seem to be well-versed in Porsche performance products, you've probably heard of them. While there, I've enjoyed the chance to peak around (and under) a few gorgeous 911 variants in their shop - as well as the eye candy display parts they have in their waiting area. To my eyes, the V8 header designs and exhausts for AMG models appear to be more material and labor intensive than what is required on a 911 - but I am no expert.
As for $/hp - IDK, MHP and others seem to give pretty nice gains over the stock baselines. How much rwhp/rwtq do you get for a 997 GT3 with a tune, and what does it cost?

44 HP on an E55. 9.4% gain over stock. Not shabby at all.
Clue for the uninformed - no one pays full list price for any aftermarket exhaust; the SS systems are actually engineered using CAD/CAM and dyno test. Not too many local muffler shops have that capability.

Is the exhaust system done? If so, what kind of power gains did you see and are you running minus secondary cats, etc. Also what did you find out as far as the stock AMG cans and how restrictive they are?

2005 Porsche Cayenne Turbo
Yikes, $10k is a bit steep for a set of pipes. I paid $8000 (installed) for a Magnuson supercharger that added 130whp to my '05 CTS-V. Full 1-7/8" Kooks headers and a full exhaust ran about $3500 installed.

Not yet, almost there. We're almost done digitizing the final bends for the production system so parts are coming off and going back on all day today.
I will of course hit the dyno asap after putting 200 miles on the system and v3 tuning. Then the track.
Thanks

Looking for a new toy.
Andy, would REALLY like to see what kind of additional gains you get with the exhaust alone, before adding V3. If that was your intention anyway, then ignore this post...I'm easily confused *L*.

Steel Gray 09' C63 AMG
Anybody got pics of this $10,000.00 Supersprint Exhaust anyway?
For that kind of money I want to see lots of pics and some hard numbers.

If not I know there will be at least a few customers that are ready to test it with their v2 tuning (independant/objective testing) so we should have you covered either way.
Honestly I'm just as excited about the stall converters at this point. That's what we need to really get out of the hole.

The most expensive money can buy!
Supersprint has always been in this price range. Dont like it? dont buy it.
A lot of the E55 guys run Supersprint full exhaust which is somewhere in the neighborhood of 12K. I also agree that the price is too high, but they are by far the best exhaust system money can buy

Exhaust for a gt3 isnt 1600, a bypass pipe is, which deletes the center muffler and thats it. And thats really expensive for a littler piece of metal that 2 feet long. And exhaust with headers and mufflers is way more expensive.

how much is the Full akrapovic exhaust for the c63?
Id wait and see the OE/Gintani Exhaust...their exhaust system for the M3 sounds mean as hell and makes gobs off power

10k is just way too overpriced unless it's titanium
The fact is theres a lot of room in the manufactures pricing of exhaust systems. I use to have a mz4 and put some rogue engineering mufflers on it and coated me 1grand while my friend had supersprint on his mz4. We compared side by side they were almost samething. Same level of sound and similiar build quality. So figure for yourselves if it's worth spending 10k on any exhaust
