Is This The Correct Oil Filter for C63 AMG
Stopped by the dealer today to get an oil filter for stock at home. The dealer asked for my VIN in order to get me the "correct" oil filter. This is what I got, is this correct?
The MB box part number is A 000 180 30 09 , the part number on the oil filter it self is A 156 184 01 25. Not sure what the difference is. The oil filter has an AMG logo on it and looks like it is manufactured in Germany by a company named HENGST.

Comes with a new filter o-ring and brass washer for the oil drain plug.
BTW is the any special thing I need to know when changing / removing the oil filter cartage?

Why do you need it? Are you planning on doing an oil change yourself? Why?
I cannot find a reason to do this by myself, I would rather spend that time with my wife, kid and dog.

By the time you take it to the dealer, drop off the car, do the paperwork, I am already done with the oil change. That is why. 
It is so easy changing the oil on a Mercedes using a MityVac (I have the one that uses an air compressor which makes it even easier).

- buy oil
- buy filter
- have jacks to lift your car up
- have an orginized garage (tools, clothes etc)
- have a tool you mentioned MityVac
- clean up
And what if there is something wrong with your car? Let say one of those CEL issues, or something you didn't see or pay attention to. The dealer service will keep you updated on every little thing that is going on with your car.
Plus having a 70k brand new, highly tech performance car and not taking it to the dealership... I don't understand it...
Please excuse me and don't think I'm being rude. I just can't understand why do people do maintance work by themselves. Would someone still do it if they had a BMW with free maintance included? Just because someone thinks that they can do it better than service masters at an official delearship. Is that the reason?
I can clearly understand DIY mods (Ex: Painted side markers (prepered, painted and installed with you own hands) I can imagine a smile on your face when you will tell people that it was your own idea how to do it and that you did it yourself ) but changing oil yourself is nothing to be proud of.

I have been doing it for years and not a single problem as well as many others here on this board. I used to do "in between changes" back when service was included. You don't need to drive up wheel ramps or jack it up and drain from the bottom. Mercedes extracts it from top. This topic has been discussed for years, as far back since I became a member in 2003. I live within 3 miles radius from Sears, Wal-Mart, Autozone, Checker Auto, and the dealer, so for me, getting supplies is not much of a time issue. Wal-Mart, Sears, Autozone, and Checker, carries the M1 0W-40 229.5 SPEC oil. I know there is another discussion on oil and this other weight, but according to recent postings in the AMG Private Lounge, an AMG rep says ok to continue using M1 0W-40 229.5 SPEC. I just enjoy working on my cars and we don't have kids or pets.
Jeff, I don't believe it is correct if you change your own oil it will void your warranty. You just need to save your receipts on when you purchased the oil and filter and document the mileage and date on when it was changed.

Hey, actually i did an oil change before i went to track, and days later I had service A come up
( i did oil change + filter at friends shop )
i told the guy about it @ MB dealership he is my friends uncle and he told me about it
he is the service manager rep too

What I dont understand is why people trust dealers to do service for them on 70K + cars. Not the other way around....
Contrary to what your "Service Manager" might say, MB service centers, hell any car service center and the people that work on your car A) dont give a rats *** about your car whether its 70k+ or whether its 10k B) will do everything they can to meet the bare minimum of the work required C) will most likely do an inadequate job at it.
And this is not me just ranting...when you go drop of your car and pick it up you have no idea what just happen to your car, unfortunately me loving my cars doing every service on them and knowing every square inch of them I tend to find out what happens to them.
Here are just some examples, and these are all true and from just minor oil changes (I dont even want to know what happens when you have a major issue)
-oil dipstick forgotten at garage
-oil cap left off and inside engine bay
-cut into bottom engine plastic cover so they would have easy access instead of taking the cover off
- wrong oil used
- scratching rims while removing to rotate them
- and my favorite removing half of old oil and refilling with half new oil (sadly true, oil analysis proved it)
These are just a few things I have come across during the rare occasion that I would leave either my STi or moms Benz at the dealer for an oil change.
The only time my C63 saw the dealer was on delivery day, and it will never see the dealer again (baring any major warranty issues)
....so back to my original question...where can I pick up an OEM C63 filter other than the dealer?

I do my own oil changes...and I buy the filter from the parts dept at my dealer. Just get it from your dealer. I don't see what all the fuss is about.

The Magnuson Moss Act prevents M.B. or any manufacturer from requiring you to pay them for services that keeps your warranty intact. Just keep your receipts, use quality parts, and keep at least to the minimum service schedule.
