Oh, let's just forget about the dollars and cents.

I can't wait to get my hands on my new car!!

By the way, Paul, do you have any pics with both your GT3 and the C63 together? That would make for quite a photoshoot!

Sebring I dont because the guy showed up with my C63 on the truck.
He unloaded that and picked up the GT3. They were literally only together for about 10 minutes. Never had the chance to take pics.
I took some of my wifes Z4 and my GT3 at the same time but not the Merc. I was supposed to go to the mountains and take some pics of the Merc and post them here and I aint did that either.
Here is the GT3 and the Z4M together

2007 GT3:

That's a nice collection you have there. It must have been hard letting that silver GT3 go. If not for the C63, would you still be driving that? I find it interesting that there is such a wide variety of cars from which people are moving from as they decide to get into the C63. And given the steep depreciation on some of these cars, I swear, we deserve some credit for doing out part in stimulating the economy!!

Sebring I made sure I wasnt paying too much in depreciation.
thats why I am not broke! I bought my first 911 TT for 70 sold it for 72 in a year and a half. Bought the Red GT3 for 90 sold it for 87, bough the silver GT3 for 120 and sold it for 115. And I got my AMG as part of the GT3 deal. So I have lost less than if I had been buying toyotas!!
I just learned to get out before they drop like a rock

Yes I would still have my silver GT3 but I wasnt driving it daily like the Merc. I was driving the X5. But since I got the AMG I dont find much reason to drive the X5.
Bad back caused me to sell along with the idea the market was falling. Now 8 weeks later GT3s are selling for 100K

What I like!
The Mayans predicted the world would end in 2012 so why worry about anything beyond then?

Those are some pretty impressive re-sale values you're getting on your P-cars.

btw-

for what it's worth i'm way on the other side of this discussion. I purchased a 70k mile 1999 C43 in absolutely mint condition 2 years ago for 15k (this was before the market "issues" obviously, and it would be worth much less now too). However, it's great knowing that no matter what I have nothing to lose and can truly treat it as the toy it was meant to be.

I can't wait until these new cars are 5 years old.

For that matter the 5-8 yr old P cars are starting to look very tempting as an addition to the "stable"- just have to convince my better half that she wants to start driving the Tahoe every day so we can ditch the G35x (another car picked up after it's "prime" for a great price- 17k for a 40k mile car last winter with most options. Can't go wrong buying "car of the year" type vehicles a few years down the road)

so yeah- please buy the C63s you want, please also buy aftermarket parts for them which you will want to part out separately prior to trading the cars in, please some of you keep your cars unmolested enough that I can come in later and cut/modify/destroy to fit my needs.

Silence if you want a resonable resale price on a Porsche the 99-2004 911
is a really good deal in the 20-30K or less. If you can find one with an auto then you can get a better deal. If you go back too far you run into the 993 911 and those 911s are holding their value really well and are into the 40's and 50s especially the 98 911 S Its the last of the air cooled 911s and its bullet proof.
IN the turbo world the 2001 - 2005 are really good deals. The 2001 and 2002 Turbos are running in the 50's and you can find one in the high 40's if you look hard.

As far as taxes go thats between me and the state.

yeah, i've looked at a couple of those cars priced around 25k that I'm sure I could have walked away with for much less. The turbo is still certainly out of my logical price range- I do not want to get out of my other vehicles or to be tied into long term payments. I'm doing well, but in all honesty I still have a few months left of having to make payments on my education/vehicles/overspending in college.

No offense to the C63 and the swap you recently made, but I've felt for the last year or so that the only next logical step for me is to get the most 911 I can with my funding when it comes time to get another fun car.

an air-cooled car would be a dream, but I'm not sure that's a logical direction for me right now. If I made a move on one of these cars I'd be leaving it stock and hoping to avoid major modification/repair costs at least initially as it would be my daily driver most of the year.

back on topic?

Silence I think we figured out the topic already so its dead

the air cooled 911 is a great 911 and pretty bullet proof. If you get it
with some miles then you can get a good deal and the only thing you really have to worry about(PPI) is the valve guides.

No offense taken. I have had some of the best 911s ever made. I had to
sell because
A. the value was getting ready to go down by $20k or more (it did) and
B. My back is so bad (surgery 3 Dec) I couldnt get in and out without pain.

I sold my GT3 and got a check and the AMG so it worked out well. If I get repaired I might get another, but it would be a used turbo

just got back from driving my C43... so much fun, probably last drive of the year. I love having a surprisingly fast car- will take some serious work to make any 911 "surprising". However, that might be the only car I could pick up and feel good about leaving stock for a good bit.

on an aside- what is your opinion of the Cayman? I know you've owned a lot of much nicer Porsches, but the handling/looks of the Cayman appeal to me and I certainly wouldn't mind doing some performance modifications. How much less power can I get out of a Cayman with a reasonable investment? I doubt I would ever actually go that route, but I think it's an interesting vehicle. I did drive a couple of Boxster Ss prior to my C43 purchase.

I like the Cayman alot. I just wish it had more power. I have a friend who got one for $17K off. Nice car too.
I think it looks alot better than a boxster. The Cayman would be better than a 911 with more power. Probably the best handling package out of the box (not including GT cars)
the caymanclub.org (or com) would know about power increases. I dont know what to do on those motors. I dont know much about the wetsump motors at all.
You cant lose with one and It seems to me the deals right now on 08s should be killer.

You guys have really hit the nail on the head...one of the best ways to minimize the (sometimes huge) hit we take on depreciation is to negotiate a really good purchase price to begin with.

(Of course, that's something that I never do myself. I'm such a hypocrite. )
