How much will the C63 be worth in 5 years?
Assuming it's an '09 with the Premium Package (Thermotronic, Navigation, upgraded stereo, etc.) and it's not likely to have more than 80,000 km on the clock by then, what kind of depreciation in terms of percentage am I likely to see?
Thoughts or insight, anyone?

I just saw you were from Canada so you will have to re adjust your numbers but the percentages should be close to the same.
Its not going to be pretty.
I have a ton of insight. Lets look at the Porsche world and you will be able to parallel it to the AMG world. Cars like 911 GT3s made in small numbers and have exhilarating performance commanded high premiums when new and even when 1-2 years old. I sold my 07 GT3 for $5K less than I paid for it.
But NOW after this fiscal crisis the MB dealer that bought it from me cant sell it. About 8-10 weeks ago was the threshold for getting out.
911s that were made in higher numbers didnt command premiums and today you can buy a 911 turbo and drive it off the lot for a $40k depreciation.
ANY kind of high cost car right now is just asking to get punched in the nose for depreciation.
The C63 is kinda hot right now and I havent seen any resale numbers
and I have only heard of one guy selling his 08 C63. I would have a hard time
thinking our car right now would take a 30% hit but I bet 20% wouldnt be out of order now. So figure if you buy a 65000 dollar car today and drive it off the lot you are looking at 52,500 maybe less. So including todays bleak financial outlook 5 years our cars will be in the $20-25K range? Unless there is some mystifying collectors issue with our cars and/or MB limits the numbers ALOT more than they are now.
Again my insight is with 2 month old data and todays data on Porsche 911s,
and the rest is guesswork, but I think it gives us a snapshot on answering your question.

On Ebay over the last month or so there have been a handful of 2004 E55's(469hp AMG, good for interpolating vs 451hp AMG as far as I'm concerned...). They were dealer cars with 11k-50k miles on them and were offered for sale from $25,000 to $38,000. None sold as far as I can tell. Three of the lower mile cars, 11k, 26k and 40k miles on them, have bids of $27,000 and $28,000, but did not sell into those bids. However, I think a realistic bidside was established for our purposes. These cars had MSRP's close to $90,000 so you can do rough math and figure they are worth about 35% of MSRP after 5yrs, give or take a few percent one way or the other depending on condition if you believe the cars trade around $28,000. So I would suspect after 5yrs a $65,000 MSRP 2009 C63 with 50k miles will sell for no more than 35% of MSRP at best, $22,750, OUCH! That said, I'm still buying mine!

Ya, in the end all these premium label sports cars fall like rocks but they are not alone - I'm in the process of trading in my 6yr old 2003 Chrysler Town and Country Minivan, loaded, AWD and $40,000 MSRP...Trade in Value: $8000 otherwise known as 20% of MSRP! Crazy me - I'm flipping into a new one and doing it all over(they are so damned functional - when you have kids you can't live without the automatic sliding doors once you've had them!)...

I've been car-shopping for a few months and ended up getting an '03 RS 6 (the C55 and E55 were on my list too, I swear -lol). I figure I'll keep it 2 or 3 years, since it's already 5 years old, and have thought about what could replace it. A used C63 is a definite consideration, so I hope they drop like the C55s - 50% in 3 years.
Edit - oops, just noticed I need to update my "Vehicle I drive:"

So, basically worse than I can possibly imagine. Okay, got it.
I have a nasty habit of changing cars every 2 or 3 years. It's never made much financial sense. But I guess that's the price we pay if we want our toys.
Just imagine the hit you'd take if you heavily modified your car. Or maybe the ones who'd do that are not so concerned about money.

Just send your bill to washington in early Feb. and ask for some depreciation assistance for your AMG car! Sounds reasonable. Everyone else is getting money so why not give it to us? If they want to bankrupt the country at least get something back in the process instead of just paying for everyone's free lunch!

I cant believe I missed it by $500!!
It may be depressing but let me cheer you up! I went from a 130K Porsche 911 GT3 BEAUTIFUL car to the 65K AMG!!!! Maybe the worlds best car (one mag said it was in Europe!!) and I dont regret it ONE bit. THIS AMG IS NUTS!!!
Its the funnest car I have ever had. The wife is mad at me ALL the time because I put gas in it once a week. I put gas in my Porsche once every two months!! I get MORE looks and comments on the AMG than I did with the GT3. People just walk up to me in the AMG and say what nice car.
