Here goes

Well it is with some reluctance that I am even posting in this thread. With that, here goes:

To Willc55, with all due respect to all LEO's many of whom are close personal friends. Triple digit speeds on public roads are classed as wanton endangerment simply and only because the law arbitrarilly said so. If you drive a C55, I am sure you already know that 120 mph in the AMG is different from 120 mph in the Chevy Impala or Oldsmobile or even the Crown Vic. Fast in a vehicle that is designed for fast is not alone inherently unsafe. It is illegal in the USA cause society chose to make it so. I think there are degrees of recklessness as well. 55 in a 25 down a busy city street or residental neighborhood is far more reckless than say 95 in a 70 down a deserted western highway. Both are equally over the limit and equal under the law in most states. It is a one size fits all deal. We set the limits within the safety limits of our 80 year old grannies in their 35 year old Buicks but do not recognise that a well trained driver in a better car can safely go much faster. It is not right or wrong it just is the way it is.

Our buddies in Deutschland know that 180 mph can be and is safe on public roads under the right conditions and can also be legal if allowed to be so. I don't make a habit of going really fast on the highway but have gone 170 mph down the back straight at Road Atlanta and felt safer doing it than going 55 mph on the freeway in Atlanta. I have also passed cops and other cars on the highway while travelling over 180 on my motorcycle and felt fairly safe doing it.* Does that make me a criminal??

I am curious how fast you drive when on duty and if it is safer when the blues are on? Again, no disrespect intended. But if it is not safe in the C63, it sure as he!! is not safe in the Crown Vic.

*The 180 pass described above was on the autobahn in Germany between Hockenheim and Stuttgart (mph speed was ~111mph or 180kph).

On another subject, flying C63's? Now that sounds like fun to me. I flew a Spitfire years ago but it was made to fly, lol. Do you have to give a Rebel Yell like a "YeeHaaaw" when flying one of them as in the Dukes of Hazard? or is that reserved for the guys in the SRT8's? Just curious.

Some of the posts on this thread are on the edge of bonkers. Would the guy who is able to drive WFO all the time on the street and who routinely runs from the cops in his car please post his location and how to get in touch with him? I have some friends from NJ who would love to race with him in their SRT8's

I've only gotten my CLK55 up to around 145-150 (maybe 147, I didn't see the speedo at the top) before I ran out of room. This was on the 210 Freeway in LA starting near the 118 (right by where Rodney King got his little beating) going Eastbound on a decent straight stretch, very late at night when almost no one was on the road. I agree with Irish that it's about the conditions, not automatically "reckless endangerment" when you go at a very high speed. The only person I was recklessly endangering was myself.

Have any of u guys ever gotten caught/stop for reckless driving?
What was the outcome?

I've heard fines can go up in the thousands, not including legal fees. License gets revoke. Criminal record(??) Drop from insurance company. Car impounded. Possible jail time!!

I understand the concept of having to pay to play.. but this is insane

Is the thrill really how fast one can go or is it the allure/excitement of not getting caught for doing somethin illegal?
Personally I've done up to 120 on the jersey turnpike (in very, very short spurts)... but I will not ever do it again from now on

happy holidays all

2009 C63 AMG Black on Black PP Package CF fully loaded
I've also done the same on the NJT W-287... I got it going from 80- 125, it really gets there quickly but the side dirt roads kinda worry me when i see them as we all know they're temp trooper traps... As always, there is no one around me when conducting my test run : > ))))

Managed to persuade my buddy to let me borrow his c63. It was a short run from 60 to 155 mph. So that is as far as I will go for now. For the newbs who think they can outrun cops in their c63 or any car for that matter. Someday you will get to cocky and get caught. Take it from someone who has expierenced charges like 103 in a 65, eluding police, and failure to break. On top of that try getting locked up and almost losing your job. Because I let my pride and stupidity almost dictate my life for the future. Some kids just don't learn until they find out the hard way. Stay safe guys and hopefully nobody has to suffer almost like I did.

180 mph is not understood to be "safe" on the autobahn in Germany. It is excessive. 130 is a recommended maximum speed, however in many locations there is not a limit. 150-160 is generally the fastest most people go when traveling extremely fast. Again, 180 mph on a public autobahn is not regarded as safe in any way, although in some stretches not outside the limits of the law.

But thats just how i normally drive haha. Haven't gotten a ticket yet even though i fly by cops all the time going much over. And thank god for saving me from a few accidents. When i get that first ticket its really gone screw me over i just have a need to speed esp. when i pass my friends.

175 MPH in Germany on my way home from Kleemann in Denmark.

Given the right circumstance I am convinced this car (with K2 upgrade) can kiss 200 MPH.

the fastest ive ever gone is ~230-240 km/h in malaysia in my c200k

over in malaysia (just across the bridge from singapore)

the cops arent paid very well. so even if you get stopped usually 20-30 USD solves any problem if you get what i mean

Back when I was young and stupid I got pulled over on a "Safe/Empty" road doing 155 in a 55. I live on the water by the beach in LI and its a 2 lane road with beach dunes on either side and it was 6AM with not a soul on the road. It took the cop about 3 miles to catch me. I could have just gunned it and he would have never caught me but meh.. I figured if I pulled over I wouldn't go to jail.

WRONG!!

He lost his mind on me. Drew his weapon. Made me lay on the ground ect..

Cuffed me and put me in the back of his car. Called a tow and impounded my car. Took me to jail. My license was revoked and I took my road test for the second time when I was 21 or 22 years old. The test lady looked at me like.. WTF are you doing here and passed me instantly as soon as I pulled off the curb. My insurance on my car was about double what a normal person would pay for about 7 years.

I forget the fines but they were quite steep. The charges were unsafe start. Reckless driving. Speeding and maybe a few others. I forgot. Either way I got all but the speed dropped by a lawyer and paid about 800 for the fine and surcharge and about 2K in lawyer fees. I vowed that day I would keep it on the track for anything above 110.

I still enjoy going 0-100 as fast as possible though off the track in safe conditions.
