S mode and M mode

Other than you get to see 7 separate digits of gears in M mode, is there any other difference b/t S mode and M mode?

I use C mode for driving on rough roads, what do you guys use C mode for?

In C mode, it starts off in 2nd gear, very lethargic, in S it starts in 1st gear, more aggressive.

Something I have noticed is that when the car is cold and has just been started , if you are in S mode the car will begin shifting from 2nd Gear... is that the case for others as well?

Ohh and in M mode the gear will not Shift UP unless if you hit the paddle or the shifter, where as S is fully Automatic.

C mode is good for winter... S mode is probably the best for general driving albeit a bit aggressive or sporty- but thats the point of this car. I keep in S almost all the time unless i have passengers (or my mother) in the car lol. Have starting getting used to M mode and i must say- it is fun, especially if ur feeling a little naughty

I've noticed that in C it will use 7th gear at freeway speeds, but in S, it only uses 6th.

I use C in the mornings when the engine is cold as i find the first couple of gear shifts a little bit jerky if i use S.

Also noticed that the exhaust note is different when you rev the engine in Neutral or Park depending on whether you are in C or S..

Sad i know but my little 2 year old loves it when i rev the engine hahaha

I use it in C traffic and snow when starting off since you can't start in 2nd in manual mode, don't know why, and using manual mode in moutain roads, can't stand the sport mode ou confort downshifting when flooring it without me asking for it !!! Would have loved a manual gear box for the c63 but they didn't do and never wil do it !!! and there isn't that many choices for a station wagon that puts down this kind of power !!!

Think that's not recommended - big piece of the breakin is the transmission, and C skips 1st. For the SLK was told to avoid "C" for the breakin period.

The manual said to break it in with trams in C mode so I did. I'm now using the S mode I can't used to the shifting at the steering especially if I'm coming upon a curve its kind of hard to find the shifter with steering at 45 degree or more.

in that case, i use shift knob. as a matter of fact, shift knob is more convenient if you drive in M mode imo, using shift paddles make you look cooler, lol

I find that using the shift knob feels more natural. I have driven manual cars most of my life and just find it much easier to convert the movement with the shift knob. What I am really curious to know is whether the changes are same response times as the paddle shifts> I still find it hard to get used to the lag times in shifting verses a manual stick.

Can anyone else verify the different exhaust notes when in C versus S?

C (comfort) mode will start your car in second gear from a stop..
S (sport) mode will start your car in first gear for a broader torque band.

If you guy remember, it used to be S/W; or so-called "summer/winter" mode.

It's part of your adaptive transmission.

Manumatic mode gives you full control of the transmission and the ability to bounce of the limiter. The best use with that transmission is turning off both modes of ESP
