To replace the diff fluid, do you just remove the lower drain bolt, drain fluid, bolt back up with existing or new bolt, remove upper bolt and fill till it leaks out, and bolt back up with new or existing bolt?

It would suck if you have to buy a new bolt, but I doubt it, unless you strip the existing bolt.

So what's the final verdict if the diff service is covered under warranty or not? Where can i refer my service advisor to if he wants to charge me? Thanks ....

theyre trying to charge me 130 as I type..

according to a post by the amg editor on the amg private lounge, it is covered yet the dealer has no knowledge of this...

EDIT..It gets better! Another dealership is asking for 230 dollars for parts

While I am at it, here is the oil part number for reference. A 000 989 5203-10 and the service is required at 1800 miles. There, you heard ot from AMG.

EDIT here is the whole post from the private lounge
Dear mguimet,

"Thank you very much for your post.

The LSD oil has the part number: A 000 989 5203 - 10.

The change of the LSD oil is covered in the 1800 mile service.

Best regards,
AMG Private Lounge Team"

thats crazy it seems there is a major communication issue between AMG and our dealers. my dealer tried to tell me that ALL AMGs need the diff flushed and it is at the owners cost. i dont have LSD.

The Maintenance booklet says Diff fluid needs to be changed at 2k miles. It did not differentiate between PP and non-PP.

perhaps the cost of the LSD diff fluid is higher hence the charge...just grabbin at stuff in the clouds here though. One thing is for sure: dealer communication leaves much to be desired.

Think l ll just do it myself

That was my correspondence with AMG in the AMG lounge regarding the diff service. I have spoken to MB USA and they state that any services needed on the C63 are paid for by the customer. There is no service , including the 1800 mile diff service, that is on their dime. I don't know about other AMG's but for ours we pay, according the the MBUSA rep. Also, nowhere in my manual is there any statement to the effect that the service will be covered by Mercedes.

where does it specify, in the warranty booklet or the manual, that this service is free? for those that got it free what did you say to your dealer?

+1 When I called recently to get an oil change, they asked if I had the PP, 'cause I was just over 2K in miles.

For those of you that do your own, what oil are you using for the rear end (street driver only)? I haven't been able to find the Fuchs Titan EG5010 referenced in the owners manual.

Yes, I see that, thank you for posting up.

Where does it say free, complimentary, gratis, we wont charge you, this first service is free, etc? All I see is a list of required service intervals with the first one starting at 2k for AMG's. Nothing about free.

It all comes down to one thing - is your dealer a dick to you, or do they treat you nicely. Mine practically begs me to come in so they can fix stuff for free and they give me a loaner even if its only going to take 2 hours. Is it supposed to be free? One person says their dealer told them "no", another says MBUSA said "no". Mine says "Of course its free."

Draw your own conclusions.

Very true and my dealer wouldn't do it for free. (Neither would another area MB dealer.)

My dealership just changed for $100.00. I don't know why some other dealers charge much $$$

This has bene beaton to death on the PL. It is not free any more. At one time it was for some models but has since been cut out.

I was able ot get my dealer to do it for free but they reminded me that they were suposed to charge for it.

The LSD first service is not covered under warranty.

Yes
Right but what Im getting at is what justification are you guys using that it WAS free at one point?

Youre telling me you just walked into the dealer and said "oh the lsd change is free. why? because I said so"

Or did you use some sort of print justification???

I called my dealer about it...

"Hi, I need to schedule the service on my LSD."
"Hmm, we don't show your car as having the PP."
"That's right, I have the 'partial' package with the LSD and speed delimiter. Here are the order codes."
"Oh, you're right - now I see it. When would you like to come in?"
"How about Saturday AM? This is free, right?"
"Yes, covered under warranty. Would you like a loaner?"
"Sure, why not."

That was sometime last fall I think. Nov/Dec-ish.

hi guys....just finish reading all the post about the diff service for pp package.....so the first service is 2000 miles.....and then what is the next service? because in my canadian version maintenance first diff oil change is stated "AT 3,000km" and then when i look @ pg 19 Service 6 - at every 60,000km "Replace rear axle differential fluid (AMG Performance Package)" is that mean first service 3000km and the reset of the lsd diff oil change will be every 60k?

The U.S. warranty booklet calls for replacement of the PP diff fluid at 40k miles, about the same.
