Exhaust note at startup vs warmed up

So what's changing in the guts of the car to cause the absolutely insane roar at startup and initial idle versus when it warms up?

Is there some sort of valve in the exhaust that gets flipped? Can it be blocked from flipping? The sound when I first get in is amazing! still amazing after, just quieter.

Cheers all.

I believe that would be caused by the engine retarding designed to allow more surface area of the cylinder wall to be exposed to flame and warm up quicker.

This would cause more gases to be released into the exhaust system.

There are primary catylitic converters and secondary ones. I removed secondary ones, removed the resonator box (there is just one), and replaced the resonator box with an X-Pipe.

The car sounds nice and tame under 1,500 rpms, but at initial start-up and high rev's is VERY AGGRESSIVE...
