Media Interface (UCI) in the C63???
Anyone here have the 2009 C63 with the media interface (UCI)? This means you should have 3 cables in your glove compartment that can connect to iPod, USB, and Aux. I noticed that this is a $375 option in Canada (option 518) and also in some European countries. However, this does not come up as an option yet in the US nor in Korea (where I am currently).
I just received my 2009 C63 and unfortunately there are no such cables in my glove box. However, in my COMMAND manual there is a section that describes the Media Interface and how to use it. I am checking with my dealer to see if I can buy this interface.
If you have this in your glove compartment, how is it plugged in? Is there a plug within the glove compartment and what does it look like (square, circle) and where is it (back, top, left, etc.)?
Thanks!

The UCI is a vast improvement over the iPod interface. It allows control of the iPod via the COMAD screen as well as integration of other devices. It is a much improved interface from the one on the earlier card that uses the cluster display for control. From what I've heard it's like $2000 to get the parts from the MB Dealer to upgrade.

I've connected my Iphone and viewed music options through the Comand screen as well as the instrument cluster screen. However, I haven't yet got around to actually playing with it much as I am still enjoying the music from the exhausts.

Maybe over the weekend I'll test the USB and Aux connectors as well.
One thing I know for sure is that the quality of the sound, I was getting from the few songs I sampled off my iphone, was excellent!!
Hope this helped.

I've attached a picture showing the ipod/iphone cable connected in the glove box to the Universal Media Interface's rectanguler socket. If you have that socket then you should have the Media Interface. I ordered code 518 - UMI for my car but the cables did not come with the vehicle. I ordered them seperately through the MB parts department. You get 3 cables, one for the ipod, one with a USB connector, and one with an Aux connector.

THANK YOU! This is exactly what I was looking for! I checked my glove compartment and while I do have a rectangular area like you and it is partially cut out, but there is no socket there. So, it seems I do not have the option 518 but the cutout is there to add it later. Hopefully they will have a retrofit kit soon for those of us whom had NO IDEA that option 518 was even available.
My dealer was mistaken that I could just get the cables and that it plugs into the back of the COMAND unit, but by your picture it's clear it plugs into the socket in the glove compartment.
I guess I now have no choice but to wait "patiently" until option 518 kit is available for sale. Since option 518 price is about $375, I assume the retrofit kit will be around that price, so that I don't have to pay $1800 for the UMI kit which wouldn't work with my COMAND anyways.
Thanks! I hope the guys at comanonline.co.uk will have this kit ready soon as well!

I'm located in Africa. Car is Africa spec, which is same as EURO spec but some changes to compensate for differing conditions. All EURO options are available here. From what I know, it is currently only a factory installed feature, though I don't see why a clever dealer wouldn't be able to retro-fit it.
