C63 Suspension Too Rough...

Hi all, I'm still "running in" my C63 - currently at 500km and waiting anxiously for 1,500km so that I can start flooring this thing.

I like everything about the car so far except the suspension. But my complaint is probably different from most of you here - I want an option of a softer ride in normal situations. I'm in Seoul, Korea and most of the side roads are quite bumpy, so you can imagine with the tight suspension on the C63 the ride is quite rough.

Since I had a Lexus GS430 before this, I probably have gotten too used to the softer ride of Lexus, but don't some of you think under normal driving conditions the C63 ride is too rough? I don't even have the Performance Package but still quite rough.

It's unfortunate that the C63 does not have Airmatic adjustable suspension like the E63 or CLS63, although I wonder if even the Soft setting of Airmatic on the CLS63 is just as rough as the C63?

Anyone know of an adjustable suspension that I can replace the factory suspension with, to have the option of a softer ride when I want it?

Carlsson has a nice suspension setup for the C63. I drove it (CK63-S) the other day and surprisingly they made it possible to make a more comfortable setup that is even well drivable with 19" wheels.

Its a sports car what do you expect? Get an E63 if you want a softer ride.

well....

I agree that the suspension is firm but I like it! It gives me a great feeling of security that the car can be thrown around corners and love it! Unless the road is very bumpy tarmac, it is able to absorb all the usual road imperfections without annoying me. However, I can see that if you drive 50%+ on very bumpy roads, it can get irritating.

i doubt you're getting old, you'd be in a cadillac then ;p

seriously it's hard to compare GS430 to the c63 because well it's just such a different focus on the car.
as you know the suspension on the gs is geared towards comfort not sport. the c63 is towards sport, but remember AMG stock suspension is notoriously pretty bad compared to an aftermarket one, no matter what model AMG in the past/present (except air rides ones).

i'd say give it time. you're not used to the new ride just yet, when you drive a car for a while you get used to it, when you make the change and it's different everything jumps out at you and your mind says this is wrong settings etc...when in fact you're just too used to the old car, your body/mind hasn't adjusted.
excuse my poor construction here trying to explain (not enough coffee yet ;p)

i havent seen too many 4000 lb sportscars with 4 doors. it just seems that mercedes really wanted to prove its sporting nature by making the suspension rock-hard, but it can be a bit much especially now with the pot-holed roads in the winter. i dont know why mb didnt make airmatic suspension option, but if you dont mind aftermarket, im sure there would be a solution.

They sell little inflatable donut type cushions you could try sitting on while driving. I think they're for people with hemorrhoids, but it might help soften the ride for ya' j/k

I'm not going to tell you what to go get because it's doesn't really answer your question. I will, however, say that I personally don't think the ride is rough and neither does my wife (her car), but then again it's all subjective and I don't live in Korea. That being said, I will tell you that I would find it VERY hard to believe than any aftermarket suspension (short of an airmatic conversion which I'm SO glad it doesn't have) would result in something "softer". Tuners are not in the market to make products that result in more "stock" performance, but rather more aggressive, improved performance. Whether it's a Bilstein PSS kit or Carlsson shocks/coils. So I guess I'm also voting for the doughnut

This is where the e-class excells. Even on very bumpy winter roads with potholes and 18inch wheels, the ride quality is excellent in comfort mode. On smooth roads you just put the sport 2 mode and the car feels totally different again. And in high speed bumps you can raise the car. The airmatic suspension is really excellent!
