Perf Package Ride Height

Has anyone hear actually compared the ride height of cars spec'd with the Performance Package suspension as opposed to cars without it? Is there a difference?

Any pictures?

The suspension is about 25% tighter, height difference about 1/4 inch lower... you can go to the picture tread to view my pics, I have several posted.

It should be no difference, with that said you could measure 10 cars and get 10 different results. I did a sample comparison and found four C63 w/PP all four about the same and two n/pp about the same and one n/pp a little lower than the ones with pp (Go figure). After long inquiring about the same subject I have found that the PP and non PP share the exact same suspension. (IAW AMG gurus).

We have sport cars, suspension is suppose to be stiffer hence a bumpier ride
The bumpier the ride, the faster the car

Considering the difference in ride firmness, there is no way the suspension components are the same. Also, if this was the case then MB would not have had an issue with the PP cars that arrived with only some of the package parts and been unwilling to retrofit.

I ordered an '09 PP car, received the partial PP initially and had all of the correct parts intalled once they came in; i.e. retrofit. I measured my ride height before and after and it was exactly the same.

I also was able to keep all of the equipment that came with the car initially. The parts (and part no's) are different. I have the full standard AMG suspension, brakes and steering wheel in my garage.

Having significant seat time in the same car with both suspension packages, the PP is MUCH stiffer and I do like it.

I was told by AMG and (confirmed via part numbers), shocks and springs are indeed the same, however the suspension is adj for track (something to do with camber). You can check for yourself, give your vin# to a MB dealer and a vin# from a non-PP or w-PP (however the case).

Note: If you get different part numbers please let me know, thanks

Could you provide me with part numbers? I have a bone to pick with someone at AMG. Thanks

Your AMG source must be wrong. There is no way a camber adjustment would affect ride firmness. Especially not to the degree of difference on this car My guess is the dealer is not locating the correct part numbers for you. Based on clktoc63's reply and experience I am 100% certain there are at the very least different shocks with track tuned damping and rebound settings than the base suspension. The springs may be the same, but I can't imagine any more than that.

It’s too bad I had a glimpse of hope that AMG customer service would have been more reliable then that.

I don't have the part numbers handy, but I think they're located somewhere on this forum...I think someone posted the new part numbers when they were going through a retrofit.

Also, I do have 4 springs in my garage (aside from the ones on the car...), so I would doubt that MB would give me a set of the exact same springs in duplicate for nothing...but I guess stranger things have happened.

I was the one that listed all the part numbers in a post last year after the work was done.

Here is what I posted:
For those that are interested, here are all of the upgraded part numbers:
Front Brakes:
004-420-89-20 Brake Pad
171-540-06-17 Sensor
001-989-87-51 Brake Paste
**They replaced more than the pads, so I'm guessing there are some other part numbers I need to locate. It now has the two piece rotors.

Front Suspension:
204-320-32-30 Shock Absorber
204-321-39-04 Front Spring
204-321-10-06 Stop Buffer
002-997-24-90 Loom Tie

Rear Suspension:
204-326-60-00 Shock Absorber
204-324-07-04 Rear Spring
204-321-11-06 Stop Buffer

Steering Wheel:
No part # listed

**They also did a wheel and chassis alignment after replacing the suspension.

They are definitely different parts. As for ride height, I am not sure. I was told it was a 1/4" - 1/2" lower, but I didn't actually measure it.

I highly recommend the upgraded suspension!
