It would be great if someone could check their dipstick and let me know if there is always some oil on the upper red plastic marker?
Someone with an oil level that's not full - somewhere below the upper marker, that is!

Thanks

Yes mine generally ends up half way up the top red marker. I fill it up after an oil change start it up and let it run for awhile to circulate the new oil through the engine. Generally I check it in the morning after sitting over night. If it is between the two top red markers I add some oil and I always seem to get a little too much. It has never caused a problem at half way up the top marker and I know the level is maxed out. Just drive it easily and I think you will be able to feel/tell if the level is too high which I think is higher than the top red marker. My experience anyway.

Thanks. Well the manual says to check it after it sits for 5 min, from a hot engine.
Between the red marks is ideal, doesn't have to be to the top.
But I was at the bottom of the lower one (although the dash warning never came on), and the manual says there is 1L from the bottom marker to the top marker.

Well 1L put me half way up the top marker. Which sounds like it's fine, but it looked overfilled.

I have a 2010 and my Operator's Manual it says:

. the vehicle must be parked on level ground
. with the engine at operating temperature, the vehicle must have been stationary for at least 5 minutes with the engine turned off
. with the engine not at operating temperature, the vehicle must have been stationary for at least 30 minutes with the engine turned off (overnight falls in this category)

C 63 AMG:
The filling quantity between the upper and lower marks on the oil dipstick is approximately 1.6 US qt. (1.5l).

So this is part of why it's so confusing. Do you have a sedan?

My 2015 C63 coupe says quite different things:

* Engine must ALWAYS be at least warm before checking. Checking on a cold engine is not advised.
Hot engine - wait 5 min (not at least 5)
Warm engine not at normal temp, but not cold - wait 30 min

Also, it's 1.0L (1.1 US qt.) between min and max.

Yes I have a sedan and it was all that was available at the time. The coupe came out with the LCI in 2012. I have no idea why your manual would have any different specs than mine. I have added oil from the lower mark to the top mark and it is 1.5 l. Maybe they changed the dipstick? I always check my oil in the morning after it has completely cooled and all the oil has drained back into the sump.

Yes, it's clearly not the same - either it's pre/post-2012 model year, or coupe/sedan. I think it's the 2012+ MY where there are some changes. Must be a different dipstick.

But even in 2012+ sedan vs. coupe there are different maintenance requirements, like the coolant change interval is different.
Moral of the story - follow the manual and not all W204 C63s have the same requirements!

I think they update the information as they go and requirements change. They are always making small changes and adjustments for suppliers and materials as they move forward. I would not assume any changes are backward compatible until you see it in print from MB.

FYI Surge - after I let the car sit for a week, I checked the dead-cold oil level with everything drained into the sump. Completely full covering the top red mark. So, my takeaway from this is:
1) On a hot/warm engine, letting it cool for a minute or two before taking the reading - you want to be just over the lower red mark
2) On a dead-cold engine, where everything has drained back into the sump - covering top red mark

These two things are equal according to my observations.

If you're filling to cover the top red mark on a hot/warm engine, my guess is that on a cold engine you'll be about a quart high according to the dipstick. Not sure if that's what you want or not. I'm guessing that's also fine.

@BLKROKT- your case sounds like it's over filled. You may want to check your manual as I'm 99% sure you are supposed to check on a hot engine, 5 min after shut down. That's what my manual says, and every car I've owned has been the same. I can't imagine your manual says to check on a cold engine.

Nope, it's fine. Re-read what I said. When dead cold, with ALL of the oil in the sump, the dipstick shows at the top mark. When warm, with oil recently circulated, the dipstick shows just above the lower mark. This is my definition of perfect oil level.
