New Tirerack Max High Performance tire shootout...

1. Michelin Pilot Sport PS2
2. Eagle Goodyear F1 Asymmetric
3. Continental Extreme Contact DW
4. Pirelli Pzero

I've got the third place finisher right now. I love these new Conti tires.

It's amazing how close these all are to each other.

Just thought some might like to see this link.

The only negative side of Conti EC DW is the size chart, they have to add more sizes. 19" line up doesn't have my specs, meaning enthusiasts with 19' rims are left out. On the other hand, the tyre just came out, I'm more then sure they will expand their line up by the end of the year.
I wonder where would Nittos NT 05 be on this "hit list"
Thanks for this find. Interesting info.

How about post what you are running now (brand and size) and if you are happy with them.

Interesting reading but I wonder why they didn't focus on the "extreme summer performance" category as Car and Driver magazine did in this article.
A few of the lesser expensive tires rated higher than the gold standard PS2's and the Dunlop Z1 and Kumho XS were in their own class for dry track performance. The Dunlops will be on my car when we go to Roebling in 3 weeks.

Two things for certain: It's great to have choices and the P Zero will not be mine.

Tire Rack considers "extreme performance" as a step-up from "max performance" - so the Kumho XS, Dunlop Direzza Z1 Star Specs, Bridgestone RE-11, and Yokohama AD08 were all tested against one another recently.

Liking the Z1's as my next set as well - although I want to see what people think of the new Sport Maxx TT tires as well.

Running right now:
245/35/19 Pirelli P Zero 39 psi Cold
275/30/19 Pirelli P Zero 37 psi Cold
I have about 1k miles on them.
Grip is good. Control also good. Braking - I would want more (but maybe it is the brakes that need a tweak).
Took the car out to canyons, overall very nice tire. Can't comment on wet conditions.
I'm bringing the car to my home (Moscow, Russia) and there is a lot of wet driving. So, that is why I was interested in Conti DW's

How does the Bridgestone RE050 Pole Position compare to those?

Came in fourth behind the Eagle F1s.

I have the Bridgestone Potenza RE760 Sport on the back and so far so good. They have about 9,000 miles on them and so far no problem, great in the rain. I'll take a picture tonight.

Don't let that scare you my friend. Keep in mind that their "Test", is under MANY conditions. NOT just dry traction. I can assure you, from owning and tracking both, that the 050 PP's will beat the GS-D3's around ANY track. On my car they were good for almost a 1.0 second improvement. Keep in mind that my lap times were around 1:09's, so a FULL second is HUGE.

I do agree that the GS-D3 is BY FAR the better tire in the rain, and I would add has NO equal in the rain.

Do you remember where you saw this comparison? Luke from Tire Rack stongly suggests the Re-11 over the Dunlops due to the weight and camber issues of our car.

He might be referring to the C&D 11 tire test. If wrong it is a good read.

Found it on the Tire Rack website. The Re11's were to expensive to be included in the Car and driver test.

Apologies, didn't check back earlier - however...

my perspective on tires

I currently have michelin PS2's. While they don't look as sexy as the PZeros that came stock (only lasted about 7K), they are head and shoulders above. I have a set of Bridgestones (not sure which ones) in between and they where awful. Love the PS2's!
