2009 C63 AMG - Steel Grey
After you installed the new LSD did you notice any difference in smoothness lets say in sharp turns? I have heard of others installing a new LSD and then getting a clunking sound in the rearend afterwards, so am just curious? Thanks in advance for your reply....

Which one to get?
Hello, I live in Montreal and just took delivery of a 2010 C63, Obs black with the premium package but no Perf. Pack. Now I regret not getting the LSD with the PP. Is the Kleeman LSD any good? Some seem to say it is not too reliable?
I was told the Quiefe required shims etc... which makes the setup less reliable.
Any other alternatives our there ? I think the LSD would be better when driving this winter in the snow :-)
Thanks.
Martin

LSD
OS Gikin is a better product but thr cost is almost twice as much as the Quaiffe. I do no had core racing, soI'm going with the quaiffe. $1350 for the unit and $700-$900 for the install. The OS Giken was $4600.

Thank you for the info. OS GIKEN do not list the C63 on their site as a model they support. Rentech is listed on the Giken site as a distributor. I wonder if the LSD they offer for the C63 is the GIKEN?
My dealer also researched installing the original LSD from AMG. It would cost $5000. Seems a bit high but it seems everything Mercedes is expensive :-)
Does the Quaife require any "adjustments" I was told it is not a simple bolt on but requires shims which become a weak link in the chain. Is that true? I found a tuner in Montreal that represents both Quaife and OS Giken, I will give them a call tomorrow and report back what I find.

LSD
OS Giken does offer an LSD for the c63 but it is expensive and it is a clutch type. Clutch plates eventually wear out. According to my tuner the OS Giken is a superior unit for race applications. For my type of driving the Quaiffe will work fine. Installation is a ***** with the Quaife. I'm not sure about shims and weak links but I will ask my installer.

Hey guys. I'm a perspective C63 buyer and was thinking about the PP and the LSD. How greatly impacted is the handling with the LSD installed?

I can only give you my opinion : I regret not taking the PP. I was reading on various threads that the suspension was too harsh and my salesperson insisted I should not go for it. In retrospect, it would certainly have been easier and cheaper to adjust the stiffness of the suspension than retrofitting a LSD. The car "handles" great. Its the "traction" that suffers. The only issue for me will be driving it in winter in the snow. Over the last couple of weeks driving in the rain I realized that any "aggressive" driving in corners results in sliding even with full ESP ON. Of course, if you can refrain from accelerating out of corners everything is fine but with that exhaust sound it is very hard :-)

I agree as well on "I should have gotten the PP package" it is much easier to back off on the stiffness of the suspension than trying to get an LSD installed later, and a lot cheaper too

Hello again, currently leaning towards the RENNTECH LSD product made by OS GILKEN for $3295 ... will probably go for the RENNTECH stage 2 upgrade as well. Any suggestions ? Warnings ?

I received my RennTech LSD yesterday ... I have an appointment for next Wenesday to get it installed. Install cost is CAN$650. Also for those who drive their C63 in the snow, I just ordered 4 winter tires from Vredestein (235x40x18 in front, 245x40x18 in back) will let you know how they perform in a few weeks when the snow hits. I hope the combo LSD+Vredestein snow tires keeps me out of the ditch :-)

LSD a must in the snow. I could not get up my drive way with snows. Installed Quaife and no problem. Very happy with it. Went with Quaife due to cost differential verus OS Giken and Mercedes unit. I was quoted $4000 for Mercedes unit. Great mod for the track as well. Quaife also provides warranty for race use. Just my opinion, the only part of PP package that really works is LSD. The 2 piece rotors can not handle heat and the suspension is too stiff and the rear end actually skips. I started out with non PP car and added the items on an individual basis. Switched out to H&R coilovers and back to one piece heavy rotor. Learned the hard way that the less the steel mass on the rotors, the less the ability to dissipate heat. The two piece rotors look great, but can not take punishment as well as a solid one piece steel rotor. Get PP and then change suspension and rotors. The LSD is most important piece of package.

you can send your diff to Renntech and they will install the OS Gilken for around $900 and send it back to you. It is a multi plate unit (wear), but they say it is the best.
