Not to be a vulture, but if they total it, find out what junk yard it's going. Some salvageable parts I see on there.

We'll know by tomorrow if it's a total loss of not. The way the hood is crumpled it makes it impossible to see the engine right now. I went there this morning and without the jaws of life or something like that you can't see the engine at all. The car held up really well. Looks like the impact was at about 50-60mph as he didn't even hit the brakes.
I'll keep you guys posted, we're hoping for a total loss here obviously. Luckily he has AAA insurance so it's the best case scenario, especially since no one got hurt.
But get this, the car he hit was an FJ cruiser. That car had very minimal damage, but it got pushed into a honda accord with this Persian guy in there. His car was barely tapped. He apparently requested to be carried away in an ambulance. Freakin scum sob wants to get paid off this thing. Fat chance.

So I guess the lesson here is, if you have to get into a crash, make sure the engine doesn't survive.

my parts guy couldn't find the exact price on hand but he remembers that purchasing one would be in the high $50k USD and that the wholesale price would be 15% off that

Really sorry to hear that. I know the Engine is costly alone. Problem is the tubular chasis under there might havd suffered some serious damage Tweeked, Rest should be able to be buffed out. Glad your friend is ok, so sorry to hear about the car though. I k now from experiance the engine is costly, and this car should be totaled out, as said before this will never drive or hande the same again. I do not see any leakage from the engine so there is hope for it, but all things around it have to be replaced. Not to mention the tranny is also I am sure tweeked as well since thes cars are designed to crumple and drop down below the firewall. My 55 suffered the same problems when thsi guy blew through a stop sign and I "T" boned that pickup into a "U" shape at 70mph, with brakes on...hehe..
My guess yes its totalled esp based on blue book value in this economy.
Glad he is fine.
YES find out where that is going I see lots of parts I need to speed up my carbon bodywork

The pictures were taken after the tow truck moved it to the FJ. At the original site there was plenty leaking from the car. I can't be sure what exactly was leaking other than the obvious radiator fluid but ...
Judging from what I hear from FJ so far they're leaning towards a total loss, they'll know for sure tomorrow. What they've apparently said so far is without even looking under the hood so far they're looking at $30K. AAA will call it total at over 80% of replacement value. Replacement value is around $50k so we're talking $40K. If they're at $30k without looking under the hood ...

Late to the party, looks like the roof above the A pillar is tweeked = total with all the other obvious stuff. I would't want that car after it's "fixed".

It's a high hit and easily fixable...............just make sure a certified shop is doing the work!!! Here's one of the C63's I fixed that is a similar hit............

I'd be surprised if that wasn't a write off--I've seen much less damage written of completely. Does the delayed depreciation factor in here?
Sad to see regardless, but your buddy is alive to tell the tale, and THAT is more important than the car, and that is one of the reasons I drive MB. He can always buy a new one, unless he's dead that is...

Come on, whats the point fixing it up if you have the comprehensive insurance? if it is mine, i will be heart borken, but same time, i will make sure it was 100% totaled, so can have a brand new one.

A member in the ML63 forum had something go wrong and ended up needing a full engine replacement, under warranty. His invoice said the engine was like $60,000+ by itself.

That is what I said, if so **** ill buy one of those engines to play with if its that cheap

fingers crossed for a total loss. Even if fixed up there is no way in hell it'll drive the same and you never know what it did to the guts of the engine from the shock. The motor could go out 20k miles from now from this impact if its not replaced.

I'd love to be there when you explained that to the insurance adjuster. "Yeah, well I rearended this car and the damn thing just spun around and KEYED up all my other body panels...............it was the damndest thing".
