Glovebox light?

So My car now has 1900KM on it and I just noticed that my light in the glove box does not work. Is there some kind of switch? Also how frequently should I be checking my oil level, because everytime I start my car it sounds like the valves are ticking, but then goes away after warm up, is this normal?

Ticking sound is very normal for this powerplant, as far as checking oil, I just wait until the Check Oil light comes on which shouldnt be to long

Ticking noise = normal
Try changing light bulb if it still doesn't work then check fuses? If fuses blown go buy one and replace it or take it to the dealer.
Engine oil lasts on how you drive.

The ticking noise just means that you need to drive your car more often than once a week. The valves just have to re-sit.

Have you also noticed in the glove box on the top there is a small adjustable (AC) opening valve to keep your glove box cooler? Not really sure what this is for?? Would be nice if the drink holders were cooled...

Vent is for your I-pod.

The vent is for personal items in the glovebox, not an iPOD.

Absolutely not...J/K

There is actually a DTB dated jan 23 09 regarding our engiene, M156, regarding customer complaints about noise from engiene. The audio clip attached sounds exactly like the common clicking everyone is talking about. The reason is described as intake camshaft adjusters or valve tappets.

I plan to discuss this with my service manager at the upcoming service A in a few weeks.

There is another DTB dated 5 1 09 regarding wistle sound from engiene that I also can hear. this one is related to a pressure regulating valve.

Cheers

There isn't any rocker arms. The cams actually sit on "buckets" which then actuate the valves and are hydraulic. They will lose pressure depending on their position when the engine is turned off and will once again readjust the valves to normal specs when the engine is WARM.

Cam timing is also computer controlled and actuated hydraulically.

DTB's are generated to give them something official to tell the owner. The service writer or service manager aren't Technicians and most know little about how and why things work.

This particular DTB recommeds replacements of tappets and hours of laber is involved...a bit more than something official to tell.

The info is on startekinfo.com that one can subscribe to for a period of time. I am not sure I am allowed to post the actual document over here due to copyright limits.

I too have searched http://www.startekinfo.com and would agree it would not be prudent to print the material. In fact, that is why I didn't mention it.

I strongly disagree that the "ticking" most hear upon cold startup is what is addresses by that particular DTB. IF the issue was to persist further evaluation would need to be performed. But tappet "let down" or collapse is common and generally not indicative of a poblem. Obviously, a tappet that will not "pump up" will continue to make noise and the valve in question would not be properly lashed. At that point a tecnician would have to remove the offending valves camshaft.

All owners would be prudent to be aware of service bulletins-some dealerships aren't exactly "honest"- and tell you about the common issues with our cars.

My intent was not meant to be argumentative.

I have to have ignition key turned on in my 430 to have the glove box light come on. Just my 2 cents

DTBs are a matter of common knowledge. Also, you can post or keep anything you get from stratekinfo as you literally are paying for that time and they let you download pdfs.

I'm not sure what the point or argument is. Are members saying the DTB addresses the "issue" or not? Is the issue normal or not? Just curious. my take from the E63s had been that it was somewhat normal and that the DTB woud only alleviate for a few cases and short time.

I also agree with you. My intention was to pass on the info on bulletin.
