Alternatives to PZeros
)Any experience with the Continental ContiSportContact 3? Those come standard on the 2010 M3 if PS2 is not available.

And I do understand that not everyone goes to the track. I just rate my tires by the track, and of course by how long they last.
Sorry, I have no first hand knowledge of the conti's. Check out the W211 section as someone there posted about them, just can't remeber who.
For those considering the GS-D3's, what size are you looking at? I can't find them in 255 or 265/35/18.
They dropped my lap time at Beaverun by almost 2 seconds

ALMOST as good as a R type tire, however they do wear quick, aka 140 treadware.
As the old saying goes NO FREE LUNCH.
They are okay in the rain, however the GS-D3 is without question a better rain tire.

What We Liked: Excellent traction in both dry and wet conditions
(On a Scale of 1 to 10)
What We'd Improve: A moderate reduction in tread pattern noise
Ride Comfort6.59
Conclusion: Excellent dry and wet performance, but sacrifices some road comfort
Noise Comfort6.59
Latest Test Rank: 4th
Dry Track8.36
Previous Test Rank: 1st (August ‘07)
Wet Track7.71
Overall7.45
- if comfort is top criteria, go with the Continental ExtremeContact DW followed by Goodyear F1 Asymmetric
- if handling for day to day driving and steering response are important, go with Michelin PS2 followed by PZero
- if it's all about performance on dry conditions, PZero is best (seems to be different from experience of a few pp on this blog who hate PZero for tracking) followed by a tie between Michelin PS2 and Goodyear F1 Asymmetric
- if behaviour in wet conditions is important, Continental ExtremeContact DW followed by the Goodyear F1 Asymmetric
If this test is correct, PZeros are not bad at all for the thrill this car can give. My other takeaway is that the Goodyear F1 Asymmetric seems to be good at almost everything and the best overall. Finally, the RE050 were nt part of this test and could have change the picking order.
Would be interesting to compare these conclusions to real life experience of others.
