You could have blown the engine. Get it checked out.

I know you didn't. I said you could have. Get it checked out at your mb dealer.

I respectfully disagree - taking a car to redline and holding it there is not going to do harm to the engine.

thats crazy! mine did the exact same thing last weekend! pulled out from a stop pretty slow.... noticed the car was reving high and was not shifting into 2nd while in Sport. at this point i cant remember if i grabbed an upshift with the paddle or if i switched to Comfort. but i know i eventually went back to sport and all was fine. this was the first and only time it has done this. im not going to worry about it much because maybe i did something wrong. if it does it again i will definately take it in.

let me know if you find anything out on your end.

It's happens quite frequently, actually. It's the adaptive gearbox trying to outguess what your right foot wants to do, when you abruptly change the aggressiveness of your driving. When you suddenly go from relatively modest levels of acceleration and deceleration, to a very sudden change in how hard you depress and then release the gas pedal, the gearbox will hold that gear for longer than normal, all the way up to redline, and continue to hold that for a few seconds.

You just have to get used to that (and you will, after a few times), and work your way around it....or make it work to your advantage, as the case may be.

How the hell are you going to blow the engine??? It has a ignition cut off.

I've held this thing for 2-3 minutes at redline in first gear doing donuts. My engine didnt blow, but it did over heat and go into limp mode.

So in S1 at around 7000rpm, if it still stays at S1 without upshifting to S2, should I just keep accelerating for longer period then will it eventually change gear to S2?

For the first time since I picked up my car, I started driving in S mode, lever to the left, and accelerated conservatively up to ~7000rpm. the gear was still in S1 and I was hesitating to accelerate it harder so Ive upshifted manually and eventually switched back to C mode. So in S mode, does RPM need to reach redline before it upshifts automatically?

If your in any gear in S mode than it will change at redline (S-1,2,3,4,5...). I can't imagine feathering the throttle in S1 mode at 7k rpms, just gun it and watch the needle...........
