I wished we had OEM shorty headers like the M3.
Seems kind of odd that AMG used a "log" style exhaust manifold instead of a higher performance shorty header.

Looks like equal length runners. Did anyone ever ask the question during one of the AMG chats in the Private Lounge on their decision to use a "simple" exhaust manifold? Heck, the exhaust manifold on my old 1986 190e 8v is more sophisticated than the "log."

I understand that with 6.2 liters, we just don't have the side space to fit equal length headers like the M3. But can't we have something close like VRP shortys?

I don't know if I'd call the M3 factory headers "shorties." They're actually pretty long and convoluted, and considering the displacement of the engine, are probably pretty much spot on ideal. From what I hear, they're volume matched, too. Having made a few sets of headers, I don't really see where to improve the M3 units, or the M5's for that matter. BMW definitely does it right.
As far as that poopy log manifold on our motors goes, it's standard across the board on the 63 motors. Even the CLK BS has something very similar. I think Mercedes had to compromise somewhere, as this is a very expensive motor to manufacture, and the logs are an easy way to adapt it to fit a number of different chassis.
