Hi guys,

I have a quick question. When should the oil filter be changed on the C63? I ask because I just recently changed the oil again (only 6k miles) and I am wondering if I need to change the filter as well?

Thanks!

You do not need to change the filter for those in-between oil changes. The small amount of used oil in the filter housing is of no consequence.

I just changed my oil at 1,680 miles and I changed the filter as well. It takes 2 minutes to change the filter and the filter costs less than $15 at the dealer.

I cut open the old filter and it contained a lot of crap -- lots of metal filings and bits of what looks like 'form-a-gasket'. I took the filter element to the dealer and asked them to tell me it is fine (or not), but based on my experience, I would change the filter, especially for the first oil change.

I was planning to change the trans fluid at around 40,000 miles, but based on the amount of crap floating in the original engine oil, I think I will change the trans fluid much earlier than that.

@Jeffield: Service A was done back in June when the dealer "changed the oil," which I don't think they did. So I recently replenished it again because it "ate the oil" from June to Dec.

Since the car recently started trembling when idle or during normal drives, I am beginning to think they never changed the filter or there might be another problem. I took my car to another dealer and they say its just the characteristics of the car. Which seem to me like a load of Bull, is it not?

Merc - The easy way to tell if your oil has been changed is to pull the dipstick and wipe it with a paper towel. New oil will have that unmistakably clean look.
BTW my dealer charges about $100 for an oil change. I think that is remarkably reasonable for a dealer service considering at the prices I pay for "parts" I am at $77 plus what my own labor is worth, for an oil change. IMO $100 for a discretionary oil change is not a high price to put your mind at rest. You are at 6k miles right now? Delay your next change to 11k miles.

Definitely bhamg, I'm not concerned about the money. I just don't know why the car is trembles and feels strange when driving? Usually it only did that with a cold start. I am going to take a look at the oil when I get home and check the filter as well. Thank you for the tip though for the next change.

I'll let you guys know what I find. lol
