Home Made Front Bumper carbon vent

Just brought some real carbon fiber sheet from ebay and decided to put it on the vent and see how it looks.

I think it looks better than covering the whole vent, I wish someone can make this into a real carbon cover, i think is not very hard and also a lot cheaper, (may be Euroteck ??)

Here are some pictures

Looks good and probably 1/10th of the price. What did you use to get it to stick?

What would a real carbon cover be different then the real carbon fiber sheets you used?

The CF sheet already got 3M backing, so just peel off and stick.

If you look at one of the close-up picture you can see the edge of the fin I use some black vinyle to cover the white because the CF sheet is laminated and can not be fold around the edge so it doesn't looks perfect.

Ooo I got it, but this design does look OEM compared to the aftermarket parts. Great work!

Very well done. Cleaner and much more OEM look. I was dabating using the same CF sheets and make a cutout for my inner headlight housing area. I know Ron Jr already used the CF sheet to cover his grille slats. Good to see more applications being used.

I really like how that looks. I am currently selling my CF vents because they were too big and didnt like how it looked bulky. If you can pre-cut this would you be willing to sell me a pair?. I am slow when it comes to all this stuff.

Overall i think it looks very very good!

Looks good what thickness was the CF? I used .05mm which I believe is the thinest available. Did you seal the edges after cutting? If not believe it or not moisture will cause the CF to delaminate from the resin and it will look like crap. I sealed mine with clear nail polish before putting the pieces on the car. Here is my grill. Third version BTW.

To those buying the carbon sheets, make sure the resin is UV resistant. Otherwise it will fade and look opaque after a while and you will have to redo the project.

I was wondering what you guys were doing to keep the edges from unraveling. Good jog on the vents. Looks much better than the bulky ones you see for sale.

Give me a few more weeks I will fine tune the shape because is not perfect fit right now, then if anyone want it I can scan the shape and e-mail to you guys you just simply trace it and cut it out.

Good tips, I need to order from other shop because mine is not uv resistance.

Nice work, looks good. I agree it is nicer then the larger one in carbon. This is quite easy to do... Especially since we already have a C63 bumper. What do you guys think is a fair price to pay for both of them? I will see if we can then get it done in carbon.

Thanks Neal. Love all your carbon bits for the C63, the only part missing is the carbon vent if you can do it in a hard CF thin shell I will still buy it. And you CF parts for C63 will be complete.

The reason I am not very happy with CF stick on I made is because it can not go around the edge of the first fin and the top and bottom of the corner curve.

You can see in the second and last photo I use black vinyle the cover the edge of the first fin, it looks ok in the photo but not very good in real, it would be great if you can make it into a thin CF shell that goes around the edge. (Hope you understand what I mean)

For pricing I think the best is for you to estimate a price and see how people respone, is very hard for us to tell you a price because we don't know how much labour and material is needed. Of course the cheaper the better

I like everything perfect on my C63, I think everyone in this forum is the same, my CF stick on is not perfect, if you can make it into a thin shell that goes around the edge I will buy one off you.

When I saw "Home Made" in the thread title, I was like "Oh my... What did someone do now?"

But to be COMPLETELY and bluntly honest with you... These things look damn good, even with the vinyl wrapped around the edges.

Like you just said (ZO), we all love our stuff to be perfect, I can definitely tell that you do, and I KNOW I do. But if you didn't know that the edges were wrapped in vinyl, I don't think you would really be able to tell... I mean, I didn't notice it until you said something. I noticed the shape was a tiny bit off, but other than that, once you get it perfected, I highly doubt any passerby or even the keenest observer would be able to tell, only you would. Having said that though, I'm sure it would still bother you(I'm the same way).

I'm glad a sponser stepped in and noticed this fantastic idea too! Euroteck makes some great products, that fit perfectly, every time. I can't wait to see what Neal and Euroteck come up with!

What a great idea though (ZO), I wanted something other than the bulky vent covers that are out there, but I never would have thought to just cover the fins. Awesome!

Mike

Glad everyone like my idea

Now is up to Neal in Euroteck to make it to perfection ??

If Neal decided to make it, hope I can get the first pair with a special price for the idea input
