BMW will launch the new M5 in 2011, the super saloon variant of the F10-series new 5-series family.

• 155mph limited top speed
• 0-62mph 4.4sec
• Unlimited top speed 188mph

That direct-injection 4.4 lump is the same engine you'll find under the hood of the X5 M and X6 M, but further tweaked by M Division to liberate more power. Forced induction makes it the first M saloon to be turbocharged.

 

I'm surprised it doesn't look more aggressive than that.

I believe that's still a CG mockup, the actual "look" hasn't been finalized. I hear they're also adding regenerative braking (KERS) to the mix. Regardless, it's going to be a ridiculous car in line with the AMG method of power production: more...sooner.

From the back it looks like an m3 and from the sides like 3 series.Am sure it will be very fast with the TT.

 

i already want one, dont forget there gonna be an extra shot of 80 hp from the kers system.

I guess the horsepower wars aren't over yet.

 

I'm a bit surprised it's not closer to 4.0 0-100 kmh with all that power. I guess their 4.4 number is conservative (which I don't blame)

So this means the new M5 will have the same FLATPLANE V8 as the X5M and X6M? For me this really ruins the character of the car.

I think the main trouble with low 0-100kmh times are due to traction issues with only RWD.

I have a feeling AMG is working on a new, more powerful motor.

 

I wish they would've went with a 5.0L twin turbo with 650 hp.... but I guess this will do for now

 

Actually it's not so much the fact that this new engine uses FI but the fact that this flatplane V8 sounds like crap. It sounds like a Honda Civic! Well fine an Audi A4 2.0T. Not that there's anything wrong with that but my point is this is a far cry from the E60's juicy V10 or the E39's lovely crossplane V8. M5's are supposed to sound good!

 

Ferrari F430 uses a flatplane V8 though.

 

No Bangle butt, no "dame edna" eyebrows, they toned down the Bangle "Flame Surfacing" too.

I hope they update the interior too. Also, the I-drive layout really was fugly!!

I might look at one when it comes out and seriously compare it to the TT E class AMG.

I think it looks too much like a 3 series.

Would look better if the car was lower.

Flat crank engine good, turbos not good for engine noise.

V10 howling from current M5 most likely way better soundtrack.

How much for all of this???

Fast car + expensive = easy

Fast car + affordable = not so easy (praise the C63)
