Tires & Wheels

What's up fellas? Searched the forum but didn't find the exact answers I was looking for. I have an ECU tune and the car is an absolute animal as some of you that have one can attest to. Anyway, I want more tire on the ground for more grip so I'm about to purchase some 19' wheels so I can go a bit wider in the rear. I need some input on the widest wheel & tire setup I can go with without altering the car in any way. I had the '05' C230 Sport before the C63 and was running 235/35/19 front & 265/30/19 rear. Should I use the same setup? What width wheels?

Im running 245/35/19 and 275/30/19 Toyo TR-1's on my summer wheels...def notice the better grip than the pirellis but im not sure if thats the extra width or the fact that the pirelli is super soft (or both)

I have no drop on my car and have no rubbing issues - if i remember correctly I heard different stories regarding 285 rears - good luck

Thanks Pat. How wide are your rims though?

My car has factory 19's with 235/35/19 and 255/30/19 - will the larger sizes listed above change the rolling diameter significantly enough to result in the wrong speed being shown on the dash?

Roughly 1mph over speed of 70 and less miles on the odometer.

Ah, superb! 1mph isn't too bad especially as the larger rolling diameter means the speedo should be showing slightly slower than stock. As it over-reads by 2-3mph stock this actually makes it more accurate!

To anyone who has done this, is there noticeable difference in the mechanical grip available going from 255 - 275 width tyres? One thing the C63 lacks compared to the M3 I had was grip - this makes it much more fun at lower steeds as it slides about more but it doesn't have the grip to carry as much speed through corners. Is there a noticeable difference between the two sizes?

One more question if I may....265/30/19 - any feedback?

I can build you a set of custom wheels 19x8.5 19x10 rear in either 3 piece or light weight monoblock with concave as well. If your interested shoot me a PM. Last time I checked no one could build anything wider than a 8.5 or 9.0 in forged.
