Installed AMG OE Door Pins
I installed two AMG door pins today - simple unscrew / screw in job. My local dealer charged me $93 a piece (for each, not the pair), but getmercedesparts.com says $49.50 a piece. They sit about 1cm high when unlocked & flush when locked.
One issue is that there are different part numbers for the rear doors (not a screw-based setup, as described in earlier threads), and nobody I've talked to can find the rear door pins.
PNs:
A 000 766 02 28 (front - one piece)
A 000 766 03 28 (rear)
Overall it's a quick and simple mod that not only adds class - it removes those damn plastic things from the doors.

As for getmercedesparts.com - I spoke with the manager of the website on the phone regarding a question about lighted AMG door sills, and the website is only a front for Mercedes Benz of Annapolis's parts department (a real physical dealership). With the caveat that this was all explained to me over the phone, I will let you know when the door pins for my GL550 show up.

2. No, just kidding - but I am fairly sure the break point for the passenger airbag is not underneath the point where I mounted the badge, and I believe that the 3M adhesive is strong enough to hold the possible tangential force that would be exerted in a deployment.
3. But I'll let you know if it ever does deploy / pop off.
You usually have to drop the letter preceding the PN for that website (so it'd be 000..., not A000...)

IIRC the eBay versions were cheaper but had problems documented on here...I wouldn't bother with them. I have the factory pins, they are great but I never got the rears to sit quite flush when locked, they are a few mm higher than the fronts..

Will have them installed once I get them by this week.

I have the eBay versions. Fronts are simple screw-on. With the rears, you need to be careful because if they don't "pop/click" onto the retaining ball, it may fall inside the door requiring your take the trim panel off and put back into place. I just simply hot-glued the rears on. Don't use the crafts type clear glue stick as that may not hold. I used a PDR (Paintless Dent Repair) glue stick which still allows me to pull on it to unlock and doesn't come off.

The eBay version work fine, it's all in the install. Like others have said, glue or epoxy them and they stay in place. A little fiddly I admit but come on, $180 for a pair of front pins?!! For that price, they should be cast out of gold and have a diamond encrusted AMG logo.

Installed the ebay AMG CF door pins. Oh boy, does it look so better minus the rears sitting higher. It doesn't really bother me much but I didn't have to use glue to keep them in place. I just twisted and pushed the rear ones a bit and it's going no where. Yes, you have to be careful about the ball-point tip on the stems as others have mentioned. The fronts are just screw on's. my gf works at MB and she surprised me with a set of OE amg pins for the front. they are super nice if you dont mind spending the cash. super easy just screw on. i put a towel on the old plastic ones and used a pair of pliers to unscrew them. i still have the plastic ones in the rear but who sees those?
i like the fact that the amg ones recess in the door when the doors are locked so no more hitting your arm when your window is down on those nice sunny rides!
