By the way, the guys in here that say they fit 275/35R18s on their stock cars without doing anything are full of it.

I just got back from getting new rear tires (Falken FK-452s). I asked for 275s and a technician told me they would rub the fender. I told him about all the people on here who say they've done it, and he laughed, but said, well, we can try, but I'll show you.

He put them on, and they were literally so close to the top fender, I couldn't get a dime between...and oh by the way, they stick out about 1/2" from the fender...

So, he said...Now, when you hit a bump, and those back tires come up, this strong MB you bought will TRASH the tires...it may be a rub on a small bump, but on a decent size bump, you'll slice a whole...He said if we had Hondas, the fender would bend, but on a car with a strong quarter panel, it will shred the tire.

I'm not saying people haven't fit 275's with stock 18" rims, but you've had to either bend the fender out or change the cambering or something...there is no way to get 275mm tires under there without bending the fender or shreding the tire.

By the way, this was a local performance store that carried anything/everything. The technician/manager would have gladly pocketed the extra money...I mentioned spacers and he laughed again..."Maybe if you had a Honda, but why would you want to trash this car"...

I'd like to hear otherwise, but for those of you concerned you can't fit 275 on an 18" rim...the concern is real. I wanted them badly, but had to stick with OEM size.

One note: he did say 265 is possible, and it would take a lot to damage the tire/fender...

I believe ppl here will tell you it actually depends on the tire brand; i.e. some tire brands in the size 275/35/18's will actually fit okay without any rubbing issues, while other tire brands in the same size will absolutely rub. With that said, I have ~ 100lbs of work stuff in my trunk and run 265/35/18's with zero issues. I didn't want to take the risk of rubbing with any 275's in the rear.

btw -- I almost got the Falken FK452's on my C63...I had them on my BMW 335i and loved them (except for some problem to watch out for -- they don't have a curb guard to protect your wheels from curb rash...got lots of curb rash with the Falkens on my 335i ); they lasted 20k mi. on the rear of my 335i, but I suspect they'll wear out ~ 7-8k mi. on the rear of your C63 AMG. G/L!

275/35 18 stock suspension (at the time) no body work.....NO RUBBING
held a plumb bob along the inside of the fender and had 1/4 inch to spare

Love the look of your red C63!!! btw -- what size tires do you run up front? I now have the 245/40/18's and think they're a perfect match for my 265/35/18's in the rear...much less fender gap in front now.

I have Dirreza's now in the same size that you are running.

Yeah, I wanted to 265's too...but they didn't have them on hand...said it would be a week.

Well, there may be different tires, but I was comparing these to the Yomohatas, Toyos, Pirellis, etc...and they are same as the rest...and there was NOT 1/4"...I wish I had that much space...but even that, if you hit a bump where the shock moves more than that, you're tire will take the hit.

I ordered some 275s on 18" forgestars. My guy said he ordered with the correct offset for the hankook v12 tires not to rub. So, we'll see in about 3 weeks. I'm running 265 vredestein winter tires on stock rims now, and it feels like another 10mm wouldn't cause issues...

That may work...I was told if I got new rims, to have them change the offset to move the tire more inside the wheel well.

The 275 on stock wheels without offset was about 1/2" outside the wheel well, and about 1-2 mm from hitting...it wasn't pretty.

And agree with the other post, the Falken's don't have protection for the rim, but I don't plan on spanking the curb

I like the new found traction...my tires were near bald when I had my K1 done, so I've been sliding through 2nd-3rd gear...now, I spun a bit but stuck and boy did it take off..what a difference new rubber makes!

I love the red too ...those don't look like 275s on there...they look stock...that is about how much space I have stock (255)...with the 275s, you wouldn't see space like you do in your picture.

I recently put a set of Nitto 555 275's/35/18 in my stock car and I am very happy. My oem tires were badly bald at 5600 miles. With my newer tires I get more traction, also they cost much less than stock(like $400 ish for two) and last but not least my rpms in 7th gear dropped 100rpm helping in noise reduction and gas mileage(on hwy).

I have zero issues rubbing. I suggest you get a higher thread wear for longer tire life.

I accurately report a decrease of 100 rpms in 7th gear. 75mph in 7th gear is now 2000rpm with the 275/35/18", before was 2100rpm with the 255/35/18".
It translates into:
1) less nosie
2) less engine wear.

I was going to say better gas mileage but I realize that you drop the rpms but you also increase the surface contact of the tire on the road..

a quarter mile at a time
Given the same exact aspect ratio, 275, different brands of tires can have vastly different widths. That's because the aspect ratio is taken from the sidewall, there's a separate measurement for treadwidth. A 275 tire with a wider treadwith might rub, whereas a 275 tire with a narrower treadwidth may be perfectly fine.

You guys should list the make/model of tire so that others can feel safe when buying a size that really cuts it close to the fenders.

I think the drop in RPMs actually means that you aren't quite going 75mph...tires don't make the engine work less at the same speed...now, you are really going 72-73mph, but the speedo reads 75...this is because it is calculating tire revolutions.

bigger tires can give you less mileage on the car on the odometer...but you are still driving the same distances.

The tires are still in my garage and yes they are 275/35. Tape measure has them close to 28cm. Tires are still in great shape with about 4000 miles on them but I am addicted to the Dunlops that I currently have mounted.

Taller tires on the drive wheels will cause the true speed to be greater than the indicated not less than. Your instruments think that you will travel 100 miles in one hour if you drive that long at that indicated speed. However you will have traveled farther than 100 miles in that time and the additional miles do not show on the odometer.
