I wonder if they could make a "universal" header for the 63 and make different adapter pipes for the different models these engines go into.

That was my goal, with the 63 headers. knowing there was about a 50/50 shot of the C63 headers fitting other cars. I found that they did not fit on the bigger chassis. So I just decided to make a header that will fit other cars. In fact we are wrapping that header project up today.

These look great. One question, do you have pics of a before/after install. I'm trying to decide whether to have hi flo primary cats, x pipe, etc. and haven't seen a good photo of the stock exhaust layout. I like the longtubes, but would like some sound mitigation, hence the primary cats, if that would help. I have heard the LTs in person on the dyno, and they are ridiculously loud, OK at WOT and I kinda like, but not necessarily driving around town with the po po.

Not loud at all at normal driving, can't even tell you have long tube BUT when you smash the gas HOLLY CRAP it's over

Well now that depends on what setup you get. I have one set of cats, res and mufflers. I am removing the cats on this set, so I'll let you know.. Now the MHP setup catless they say is loud as .. I have a set of Renntech shorties I may sell.

How much for the shorties and are they comparable to the K2 gains? Also, did you delete the secondaries with an x pipe, or the primaries, I'm thinking of this setup as well. Thanks!

Looking at the design the Renntech shorties have a better flowing caractheristic but that is on paper, on the dyno it might be different..

It has been there for just over two weeks now But the headers are being built starting from scratch, New jig for production of the CLS63's. I would say by Friday they should be complete. test and fit, test and fit and test fit again. MHB wants these as perfect as possible and I let them know that they can take all the time they need to do the job right. Hooley calls me or by text daily to let me know updates.. I have done many projects and one thing I've learned is that it takes time to get it right. Once they are installed I will let you guys know. waiting on pix also.

^^ Thanks for the update. From what I understand they are trying to make a "one size fit all" type of deal no? I read that Holeyboy wants to expand the product to make it fit in all the C63 AMG engines at once (C model, E model, CLS, etc).

Mike: How much power is left on the table if the CATs are used?
I'd like to know this answer as well, but doubt you will give up more than about 5 - 7 whp by adding 200 cpi metallic cats.

lately I've been busy on the local level. Working on some R&D projects. Dealing with the lose on my car, helping Dyno-Comp promote the opening of the new RENNtech westcoast headquarters.

In the time since this post. We have had a few local customers, take there brand new C63 to just around the 450whp mark with tuning and the MBH long tube headers. One of these cars only had 1k miles on it. So for a new car to make that kind of power, being so new. We feel great about that.

As for cats. I offer them free to MBwolrd guys if you deal with me. How long that will last IDK maybe another month? Partly because I cant get any takers on the cats. Know one wants them. As soon as I tell them its about 5-10whp less with cats. They say "Nope I'm going catless". So now I'm thinking about sending a bunch of them back. In fact I cant even get a car to do a dyno with primary cats intact. To me, its not an issue and its about what the customer wants.

Rick's car is going to be insane. Rick is a "go big or go home" kind of guy. If you met him, he is very energenic, always wanting to make you laugh. All around great guy with rockstar long hair!

In all honesty we have had a few timing delays with making a new header setup on Rick's car. Nothing crazy, only a few days set back from a slight fabrication staffing issue. We are 100% expecting Rick's headers to be completed, installed, Dyno'ed, and ready for production this week. So thats exciting.

With the new setup, tuning, and what not, Rick will not only make more power, but be faster on the track.

The only "worst spot" I could think of is the torque box by the cowl/rocker and pushing the roof up. Glad to hear you are ok.

Any updates?

Also, is there any other more effective option out there besides cats to deaden (but not change) the sound if you have long tubes? without losing anymore power than going with cats let say...

Vibrant makes a high quality stainless perforated tube resonator for noise control if you don't want cats. But the shortest they make is 12".

Based on 5 - 10 whp on a car making 450 whp, we're only talking about 1 - 2% loss for the cats. That's not bad in my book.

Also worthy if it quiets the bark a little bit.

5-10whp is within the standard deviation of dynoing on different days/times/wx conditions...that isn't appreciable loss.

Bassically yes, We where testing a new finish with a polishing compound. It kind of gave the headers an matte industrial look. Not my personal favorite. I prefer strait scotch brite. In any even they all turn gold after a few heat cycles.

I'll toss up some more pictures, I will also have a finished product in the other finish we offer come Monday. I have a bunch of dyno results I need to get and post for you guys. Along with a head to head test vs another set of long tubes. If someone wanted I could even polish them to a mirror finish. Its really what ever the customer wants.

Here are some more pics.

The other finish looks like this.

The matte pollish (as seen in past post)

In this pic you can see the two types of finishes we have. If you look at the tacked on collector at the end of the header you can see the difference, between the two. You can also see how some of the polish gets hard to remove around the welds.
