Doesn't this whole discussion depend (at least somewhat) on where the OP lives?

Do you mean the RS5 coming out or the 2008 RS4?

The new updated Audi interior that will be going into the RS5 (which is basically the same as the Prestige package in my A4) is a great place to be. I enjoy the seats, dash layout, and the trim. The sound system is close (if not better) then the P1 package in the MB. Audi's Nav and MMI system is OK, some good features, some bad. The map looks nice, but it's very complicated to use and I think the Nav system in the Mercedes is much better. I've only been able to use the voice commands for my phone, everything else is very difficult.

I test drove a 2008 RS4 and wasn't impressed. The steering wasn't on par with the C63, M3, or even the Lexus ISF. The interior wasn't close to the others either. I did like the exterior styling (although the upgraded B8 body looks much nicer), but thats about it. The power was close to the others (well, M3 and ISF anyway) and the exhaust sounds nice but nowhere close to the C63.

I probably make a fraction of the salary most people on this forum do so I do a TON of research, multiple test drives, and multiple trips to the dealers before I made my choice to go with the C63, and I couldn't be more pleased with the car . Like I said though, if your heart is REALLY set on a coupe, check out the M3. If your cool with 4 doors, the C63 is the only way to go.

Virtually no snow. Just a dusting maybe twice a winter. Nothing at all after living in the midwest for many years.

I do ~ 90% highway driving, and actually get 20-21mpg; my highest is 22mpg...not bad for a 6.2L V8 engine with ~522HP. In the city, I get ~ 13-14mpg though.

Hmmm...in that case, I would have no reservations about going with the C63 if you're able to get over the mental hurdle of giving up a coupe for a sedan. As sexy as the S5 looks, the C63 really is one level higher in the automotive food chain. Go for it.

"history and tradition" as Clarkson said. It's 6208cc.

This Autoweek article from 2006 is the best I've read that provides the history of the "6.3"....

http://www.autoweek.com/article/20060508/FREE/60428004

The designation 6.3 is rich with heritage at Mercedes-Benz. To aficionados, it represents a car more than an engine—one of the finest cars in Mercedes’ post-World War II stable. The original 6.3-liter V8 debuted in 1962 in the new M-B 600 uber-sedan, which was to the mid-’60s as the Maybach 57 is to 2006. Known internally as the M-100, the first 6.3 V8 was a he-man among boys, with engineering decades ahead of the curve. It featured fuel injection, aluminum cylinder heads, overhead camshafts and sodium-filled valves, with forged pistons, rods and crank. Each hand-built copy was bench-tested for 265 hours, 40 of which were consecutive at full load.

I would go with the 63 over the S5 or even the new RS5 which btw comes with 450hp and 317lb/ft torque. The 63 is still a winner by 1hp but the torque is just not there for the RS5. If I were in the market I'd take the 63 between the cars you mentioned.

RS6 is a "porkster"

It is soooo heavy.

560 hp and no faster than a C63??

here's a side way comparison, since you seems to care more for the looks, i like the coupe lines on the s5 nice and sexy but i like the aggressiveness(racy, tough, cool looking) of the c63 a little better imo.

You are right. The lines of the S5 are smooth and flow smoothly. The C63 has an aggressive look which looks great. Like the way the C63 drives and handles. Stealer wants to give me little on the S5 loaded and with 4500 miles. just chuckled.

I would purchase the C63 any day compared to an S5. You have over 100 horsepower more in the AMG plus you get all the AMG trimmings such as high performance brakes and AMG suspension.

IMO S5 is just too big.

And power wise, come on it doesn't even compare.

Nice car for sure the S5...but a slower and more expensive option to my C63, no thanks. Never mind the added practicallity of a C63.

For the newbie, wrecker, Driving my car in winter every day not a bad thing to say.

Had my C63 for 18 months and not one single thing needed repair.

First car I had that is so reliable...and freaking fast, especially aboove 60 mph that's where you separate the "real bad boy cars" from the "wow it looks nice car".

The C63 isn't a nice car. It's a bad car. Yes. I said it's bad, real bad. Bad to the bone. And i like it that way.

6.3 on the fender??? this day and age???

Yes sir. 6.3 liters. And I'm not apologizing for it either.

Get em while you can before they are taken off the market or made illegal.

After 18 months my spouse is finally getting used to the guy in the car next to mine staring at those bad boy brembo brakes (BBBB Syndrome).

BBBB have an hypnotic effect on any car guy 10 to 99 year old.

No matter how hard the guy next to you tries not to stare at them they don't stand a chance.

If you buy one you will find out soon enough.

C63 forever Baby
Its bad when you want it. Cruising its rather quiet which is good. Driving it hard that is when the beast comes alive.

Being the owner of a Black Series and an S5 I can tell you first hand ab the S5.
Mine is as modded as it can get and it is torturously slow, heavy, (and feels it)
and has numb steering. Yes its a good everyday drivers car but thats it.
I will tell you this - my car is white and I did a White/Black Theme /coilovers, 20's Painted all exterior parts gloss black, exhaust etc.
The looks and attention this car gets is unbelievable. If any of you have seen my Black Series it is no slouch in the looks dept. but I swear to you I get harrassed to death in the S5 and have 2x as many people asking ab it taking pictures pulling up at stoplights - asking me how much it costs, if I want to sell it, is it a special Euro edition on and on and on. I swear you would think I was driving an LP.

I dont think the 63 has it in the looks dept. but if you want a drivers car and a car that is going to put a smile on your face - 63 all the way.

The c63 is the only way to go. I am in the market for one as we speak. Being a kid in college and 20 years old I have been about mercedes since im 14 years old. I just sold my 2007 gti which has 280 wheel hp and i crushed the s5 haha. The c63 is probably making 380 wheel on a dynojet and about 355 wheel on a mustnag dyno. For price the 340 crank s5 isnt doing much

C-class coupe is coming, an AMG version could follow. You could just wait for that.

I drive the C63 since December 2008. Before that in May 2008 one my friend's bought the S5 with white interior, carbon trim, 20"inch black RS rims. It was amazing. I was so jealous and impressed by the car I was going nuts

But when I got my C63 and went by past him on the highway at 6oooRPM, he said he will trade his S5 for a C63 the next day just because of the noise it makes

As others said before - when you see the S5 at sunset coming in the rear mirror with daytime LEDs on, you just cannot fall in love with its looks. It's a great car and handles really well but it doesn't give the driver as much fun as the C63. The sound is really weak unless you mod the exhaust, but there is another issue - if you now drive an S5 and in 2 months someone stops on a red light next to you in his RS5, you'll be jealous as hell

With the C63 it's easier - you can't go higher... unless a C63 Black Series comes out

My friend's S5. It's not the best quality (iphone)

I know it's off topic but I do not want to seem too negative about the S5 - I have to say it's a very safe car. These are the pictures from August 2009 when my friend's S5 was totalled by a girl doing 140km/h in the city and losing grip. She crashed 10 cars (I couldn't believe it but a local Berlin newspaper backed it up).

Amazingly nothing happened to them! They didn't even have bruises or injuries

You're going to regret asking a question like that on the C63 forum.

I keep on considering the C 63. It is a great car, mega power and the sound is fantastic. I have never had a sedan in my life and although the looks of the C 63 look great in the sedan I keep on hesitating on getting one. I have also looked and drove the E 63 which is more on the luxury side, not as sporty and aggressive looking. But is longer, about the length of the BMW 650 I had which is a bit much. Sounds like the C coupe would be nice but coming out in 2012. Long wait. SL's 63 are nice but worth the $, not sure. Even the used, CPO'd ones are up there. And following the forums it seems like the value drops fast on all of them. Was even thinking about a 2009 CLK 550 which are out there and being given away price wise but haven't driven on. All in all, everyone's help here has been great but haven't made up my mind. Still trying to get the dealer to give me more on my 09 S5 loaded. I have had a M3, BMW 650, 997 CS among some of the cars so I want to make sure I get one that I can have fun in. Unfortunately for me I tend to keep cars for about 18 months and get rid of them. One of my addictions which the wife hates but lives with. So I have time and will keep on going thru these forums. Thanks.
