The Big Lauch Debate
Hi guys
I know this question has been asked before but am still not convinced which the right method is, please help.
If for argument your car makes 450 whp and you are running MT Street Radials.
How do you launch the car?
Method 1 : Many say pick up revs to about 1500 - 1800 and on green/last yellow stamp on gas and take foot of brake.
Method 2 : Other says pick up revs to about 2000 + and follow same procedure.
I used to previously run Toyo R888 because of availability of MT in South Africa.
I have tried Method one with MT's and I seem to get a kind of semi-bog between 2000 - 2500 rpm.
Method 2 - Induces crazy wheelspin which affects 60 foot time.
VBox times for my 60 ft are 1.9 / 2.0 secs.
What are your suggestions to improve my times?

Try to rev to 1000RPM.I tried all other kinds, i see this works the best for me.I never had the chance to take it to the drag due to the weather here in denver.

Hey a fellow South African on this board about time! I put my foot on the brake, rev till around 1500 rpm then mash it to the floor. That yields the best results for me. Runnings on P zero's now but changing to the Michelin PS2 those give awesome grip.

Have you taken the car to a drag strip, any times?

True. The transmission needs to have a separate clutch system that can have it in motion while revving while a whole separate system drives the rear axles as you put it into launch mode. Insane function.
I dont even know if even after install it would still jive...probably more headache than enjoyment.

This is what I do. Turn ESP off, leave the car in Sport mode, click the left paddle to get into S1 gear so it holds 1st gear all the way until redline, and each subsequent shift after that. Then, at the light brake with left foot, and bring the RPMs up to right around 1000 rpm. When the lights turn green that is where driver skill comes into play because you want to get off the line with as little wheel spin as possible obviously, so that's simply going to take practice figuring out exactly how much gas to give and when you can go full throttle.

I would love to hear about anyone doing it to a C63. The gains from 0-60 and the 1/4 would be huge. Any vendors out there with some info?

If you put in a higher stall torque converter how are you going to get traction? Higher stall torque converters make a car more prone to spinning the wheels and the C63 is already traction limited.
This is really a mod for a dedicated 1/4 mile track car with sticky rubber. You will have a hard time getting sticky rubber under this car unless you are willing to replace the rear brakes with smaller units and going to 15" wheels and slicks.

You need sticky tires. 40 or lower tread wear rating. Do a huge burn out, get them nice and hot/sticky. Then follow NRGY post.
ESP OFF, Sport mode, but hit the shifter down so it goes into "shift at redline" mode. Bring revs up some and floor it.
