Exhaust gets longer when hot....
Has anyone else noticed that the exhaust tips protrude a lot more after a spirited run?? I noticed that I could see the AMG stamps on the exhaust tips a couple of times after driving it around a bit hard then in the mornings I couldn't see them at all.
See the attached pictures for a clearer explanation.

Yeah, me too. On a related link somebody also mentions that the passenger side exhaust tips stick out slightly further from the diffusor than the driver's side tips (whether hot or cold). When I first read both of these stories I thought they were nuts. But, sure enough, I checked and both are true. You guys are seriously observant. I wash my car by hand, detail it all the time, look at it constantly, and I have never noticed this before. When hot the exhaust system grows by about an inch in length. No wonder the thing makes so many popping and crackling noises when you turn it off after a hard run. That's some serious heat expansion going on under there.

I found proof!!!
Watch this video to see it grow! :-)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=foJyZWZzyf4
I downloaded it onto my i phone so that I could see forward it between beginning and the end. You have to look at the exhaust tip from 0:05 to the end in relation to the shadowed line of the corner pillar behind. It looks like a small increase but an increase non the less.

It is quite obvious on mine. The ///AMG logo is completely tucked under the bumper when the car is cold, but after driving the logo pokes out and can be seen quite clearly.

Great video, you can actually see the expansion. So now I wonder if all my other cars did this too and I never noticed it, or if the AMG exhaust system is unique. How about Corvettes, Mustangs, other V8 cars? Anybody know if this is common, or is because our cars run so hot?

Here's my new advertisement for ***** extension. It is a 1 track cd that you listen to while sleeping so that it passively works without you knowing. The track is 5 seconds long and it is the sound of a cold start in 0c. It repeats itself until you wake up. I will sell it for 5 payments of $19.95. Anyone interested?

I also noticed the difference in tip lengths. Haha I've been noticing it lately. I guess I'm obsessed.
Btw, the tags at the bottom of the page are funny--its like a subject for spam mail: exhaust...grows...hot.
@ Zephyr,
