I've replaced the original rear tires with Nitto's NT555R Drag Radial (285/35-18).

These tires are really designed for dragstip use. They are R-compound tires (very soft and sticky) and they provide maximum traction to the drive wheels. This will essentially prevent wheelspin at launch and help get the 60' and ET down significantly. In my opinion, this is one of the most essential mods for those looking for the best and most consistent results at the strip.

For this application they are a little tall @ 25.91" diameter and they are a little fat @ 11.22" wide but man do these suckers hook. The difference is night and day. It's nice to finally get my 446 RWHP to the ground! These tires + the Quafie LSD = Traction Heaven.

So far there have been no issues with rubbing.

Note: I haven't tried any extreme angled declines or inclines nor have I loaded the backseat with passengers. Take my "no rubbing" with a grain of salt.

I've run Nitto DRs on more powerful vehicles in the past with great success. Just as before these are very streetable and even manageable in the rain. The sidewalls are soft so aggressive handling/cornering is not encouraged. One benefit to the soft sidewall is that these only weigh approx. 25-lbs each.

They will eventually become my dragstrip-only tires. I'm still waiting on my Forgestar F14 wheels (18x8.5 ET44, 18x9.5 ET53) and will be running Nitto NT05 tires (245/40-18, 275/35-18) on them.

I certainly would not recommend a 285 if a 275 was available. This was the only way to get the tire I wanted. Really only one choice.

Besides, not all 285-width tires are equal. Get the exact tire width and diameter from the manufacturer before assuming it will fit. Some tires are notoriously wide.

I agree. I know Michellins and Continentals usually run wider. But those 285's you have look great.

Finally someone with big Cojones (*****). Thanks for being pioneer on this and rolling the dices, I will soon follow you on that same exact set up. Too bad we are on 9" in the rears but I rather have traction than anything else.

I am currently running 275/35/18 Nitto NT 555 Extreme ZR but they are like 300 threadwear. It improved my traction but I think my car needs like 285 despite being almost stock power wise.

Thanks, but I can't claim the pioneer title. The folks at RennTech, DadsC63, Andy@MHP and some others have used this setup on their C63 with a lot of success.

Oh well, I guess I missed those post. Changing the subject, I dropped 100 rpm on 7th gear cruisng at 75mph, I am now at 2000 rpm compared to 2100rom when I had my oem tires. I am sure you dropped even more rpms(even taller gearing).

How much a set of those ran? Our cars should had come from factory with decent 9.5" or 10" don't you think?

Is there 285/30/18 available from Nitto? 285/30/18 is 1.2% smaller than stock and 285/35/18 is 3.3% larger than stock. So, 285/30/18 should be a easy upgrade with more direct road feedback plus less chance for rubbing! Is there any other concern?

Eventually, I'll be using a completely different wheel/tire combo for everyday use and when I road race (see my signature for details).
