Superlubricity,
Great post as usual. You should add your crank pulley to the list of unsprung weight
I am pretty surprised you were able to fit the 18s (even without a lip) to fit over the front brakes. Good to see you were able to do it without a spacer. Long story short, when I put my wheels on with a 5mm spacer, I had a lot of vibration since the spacer covered up too much of the stock hubring.

Re: Weight. The crank pulley is a minus 2-lbs, unfortunately the LSD was a plus 3.5-lbs. You can't win 'em all.

Some quick follow-up notes regarding the tires now that I've had some time in the dry and wet:
- I love how they look. I mean, look at that tread pattern above.
- Straight-line traction is much, much better than the OEM PZero tires. They don't quite hook like my Drag Radials on the street, but that is to be expected.
- As others have commented, they do like a little bit of heat. Once they warm up the traction improves significantly.
- They are very stiff. There is an immediate increase in road "feel" which I consider a good thing, especially when cornering. I have a lot of confidence driving on these tires.
- They are OK in the rain for normal daily driving. No major issues in the city or at high-speeds on the highway in wet conditions. However, I can easily get the tail to kick out through low-speed turns when there is water on the pavement. It caught me off guard the first time it happened as it took very little effort.
- Cold pressure at 38 psi and no loss since initial inflation.

I tested the NT05's out for Nitto Tires before they were released to the public on my Viper for them at Sebring. I know first hand they are a very good street and light track use tire.

Trolling the Porsche boards . . . Matt from CampioniShop answered the same question I asked from another member with, "They [the original 18" wheels] tested for higher load ratings, essentially the initial tests did not push the wheels to their safe limits."

Thanks for the great info. I had purchased 19s but sold em to avoid any fitting issues. Will order 18s for next summer as my track setup but I was really worried about the load rating!

On that link from jmf003 the displayed pic in that other thread show a wheel 18 x 8.5 weighing 8.38 kg = 18.4 lbs
Compare the 18 x 12 wheels and you'll see a weight increase of 1.4 lbs: 20 -> 21.4

Just an example. On the forgestar site a link they show this reporrt for an 18 x 8.5 wheel. Link Notice the wheel weight is 17.7 lbs

It's still not 100% clear if they made any changes to the wheel or simply just tested it at a higher rating. I've got a few questions out there.

This just doesn't make any sense.
Why wouldn't the wheel weights be the same? It makes sense that they submitted a new wheel, heavier, to pass a higher load rating, rather than submitting an exact copy of the one that passed at 1200 lbs. Also, the pic of the load rating stamp...is 1200 lbs on the "old" 18" model?
It will be interesting to find out what happened, new wheel or not. Why didn't they test at the higher load rating to start with? Makes no marketing/sales sense whatsoever. Just go read all the complaints on the M boards.
Has anyone tracked these wheels, either in the 63 or an equivalent car? I don't want to be the guinea pig...

Hopefully it works out for you..I do like the wheels, especially the price.
I'm guessing they were marketing to the STi sized car, not expecting that heavier cars like ours would like the 18" wheels as well. They probably assumed we'd get the 19s which are rated at 1500 lbs I believe.
