chubbs - Installation was "ballpark" from what I have seen here so no issue with that, but my overall installation was more complex than normal because I wanted cats. Call Richard at Dyno-Comp...I'd rather he discuss pricing with you.

There's no such thing as ballpark....it been as low as 600 to as high as 1600. Fair enough tho, glad your enjoying it.

Sorry, there is such a thing as ballpark. You were unfortunately quoted $1,600, I personally have never seen labor quoted on this job as over $1k...so throwing away the outlier makes ballpark between $600 and $1k...YMMV.

It was two things - noise control (I wanted to eliminate the chance of any drone at highway cruising speeds) and (not wanting to get on a high horse here, but...) being socially responsible, especially here in SoCal.

Very nice. I need to move to the SW..one to find better weather and second to be closer to the shops and parts that I would like to visit. Maybe it's time to drive to Scottsdale then back up the pac coast highway?

Back to the headers, would there be any benefit to replacing the stock resonators/h tube with something similar, but w/ more flow and sound suppression, assuming no cats? And would using a header wrap do anything to improve the heat retention?

Again, great headers and results!

EM - Thanks. What I know about the MBH headers is specific to my own application (with cats). The exhaust note under a wide range of throttle application ended up being about as perfect for me as I could possibly have expected but I wanted it somewhat on the quiet side. Perhaps Hooley can jump in here...or maybe you should call him and/or Richard and see what they think. They must have some ideas but I'm not sure what is out there that would provide both more power and additional sound suppression. I recall a prior discussion about coating SS headers with no particular consensus reached...personally there is no way I'd wrap these, but that's just me. I will say this - when I throw the hood open after a hot drive the engine bay seems to cool down faster than before.

Here is how it was done on my car. (Sorry about the iPhone photos). No one actually knew exactly where the cats would be going until the headers went on...then test pipes were fitted in place of the cats for dyno testing and tuning. The cats replaced the test pipes at the end for more dyno runs and I drove away with the cats installed. The (removable) CA-legal cats were installed where you see the test pipes in the first photo. The second photo shows the compact size of the new cats vs the OE cats. Hope that helps.

Looks like they did a great job for you! I was confused about the use of the cats, now I get it, you now have highflow aftermarket cats that slide on after the merge collector. Very nice, kuddos.

Thanks Brian! One small correction...I don't believe there is any such thing as a "high-flow CA-legal" cat. They look like they might be but they are not. As I understand it, in order to be CA-certified, the cat must be manufactured to a completely different standard (additional precious metal washes etc.) so that it is more efficient - cleaner - as well as longer lasting. They look very cool installed but I am still down ~ 20WHP with them on.

With long tube headers, weather it be for the 55's or the 63's or 500's. Installation is strait forward. You have to disconnect the the steering shaft (1 bolt). Once that is out the headers just slide into place. Bolt the header down and reconnect the steering shaft.

All tubes are capped and purge welded. Then finished with our Scoth-Brite finish. Or by request a matte metal finish.

I personally Inspect every set of headers that is made. I make sure the header flanges are cleaned up and ported out.

I've got a bunch of pics from fabrication to final product. Some maybe of the CLS/E63, but the design is basically the same. I will PM you some more pics if you like? However if one looks a bit different its because its the other 63 model. It should give you a full grasp as to what goes into these headers from beginning to end.
