X PIPE VS STRAIGHT PIPE

+2,. I removed my resonators for an x-pipe. It was pretty pointless, went back to oem. No worthy gains, just change in the characteristic 63 sound. As dads63 said, do not touch anything from the resonators back, which just shows you how perfectly designed and engineered they made it. Just play with the 1/2 cats and get actual gains out of it.

one way to solve this!!!
ehxuast note vid clip comparing the two
one vid with JUST the resonator deleted and another with JUST the 2ndry kitties deleted.
then, the verdict shall be made.
till then...
this is going nowhere

Enjoy the DRONE!

Try this: Let the 722.9 shift to 7th gear and cruise on the highway @ 65mph.
How's the droning?

I removed my res, and i drive constantly back-forth to my office on the highway, and i dont get any of this "drone".
I will be removing the sec cats, and replacing with an x-pipe next week.

You asked for help from this forum and got actual info from people who did what you asked already(some of us many times)and then listened to your "master MB tech" that shows he knows NOTHING about exhaust efficiency, exhaust pulses, the positive effect of deleting the secondary cats for more power and sound and the highly restrictive factory exhaust design and components. ![crazy](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/crazy.gif)

Yes i did ask for help, thanks to all the people that gave me an input. I decided to take off my resonators and add a straight pipes because that's what i wanted to do. I feel happy with my decision and i don't regret it one bit.
I was actually very surprised, there is NO drone in my car what so ever, Just like obsidian05e55 stated. And like i said before, I just wanted a sound improvement. And i don't think your in a position to question the knowledge of a master certified tech at Mercedes who has been working on AMG's for over a decade.

I'm not a Mercedes tech either. But, the resonator also acts like a H-pipe; which you effectively removed. Removing the secondary cats would have given you the sound you desire and also increased flow. Take a look at Superlubricity's review and videos of the x-pipe he has that replaced the secondary cats. I think many of us are scratching our heads on the advice that the Master Tech has given you.

X-pipe is the best all around for both sound quality & performance, only downside is its usually a bit more expensive than straight pipes (although sometimes its cheaper).

Oh..well, i guess having removed the resonators then, you won't have that problem, seeing as how the resonators actually function to balance the exhaust pulses and the cats are for emissions only.

I replaced both sec cats and resonator w/ x-pipe...no drone, but the signature C63 sound is gone...it sounds much more Italian now. Anyway, I like you guys, enjoy my decision...didn't see any gains in power, but love the high-revving and free sound it has now.
While I agree your MB Tech doesn't sound very smart (and Superlubes car does NOT sound stock by ANY means), you did what you wanted...congrats, glad you like your setup!

Can someone in this forum who has time to waste post links to clips of cars that have different set ups (2nd cats removed only, resonators removed only and then both) so that the community can easly listen to all the set ups.
Whoever will do that, please accept my deepest gratitude.
