Brake Job
I am looking to purchase a C63 soon and have been comparing costs to the M3. Not that it would destroy me but the brake jobs I have been quoted seem to be a waste. About how often are you all changing rotors and/or pads? What's the general cost? I have been quoted from $2700 to $4000 for all four so far.

One a Benz dealer in Houston, the other was one in Dallas. I'd like to at least have the work done at a dealer to maintain warranty. Any experience with a lower cost?

To give you an idea, I am in the market for a rear brake conversion. I have been looking into the CLK 63 Black Series rears. For the 2 calipers, 2 rotors, 2 sets of pads, all brand new comes out to about $1,200 in parts. $850 is the calipers. You should find a reputable independent shop to get your work done.

An independent shop is a good idea. The Merc install cost was $500. It's the 2500+ in parts that kills me. I seriously don't want to risk any warranty issues.

I don't know if that includes ballast and bulb and anything else you need, though.

I got 39000km of hard city driving and my brakes are 30% left according to the dealer on my last service.
I dunno why you would base buying a car on the service costs though.. Maybe a sunfire vs a neon???

I'm with you...it's just the principle of dropping an extra $5K on service and tires (with no value at resale) vs. an M3 that's the tough decision.

MER63,
Thanks for sharing your brake experience. I calculated the aproximate mileage your brakes will last based on the info you provided(sorry, I love to do calculations):
39000km = 24,000 miles=70% wear
I estimated your brakes will last until 54,700 km or roughly 34.300 miles
I am personally driving an average of 10000 miles per year so if I can squeeze 40000 miles out of my brakes I would consider buying just pads at first and if I have to do rotors I would definately go with Evosport rotors or Brembo brakes.

For those of you who have done your first brake service, is it just pads or pads and rotors?

I dont know about other countries in Japan you get 3 full warranty at the final 3rd year check up if you brake pads or rotor need to be changed you can get it changed for free. In this 3 years dealer does everything for free. 2nd check up is in Sept so I will get all check and if parts need to be changed then its all free. So after this 2nd year check up I will use the brakes hard I mean very hard so at 3rd year dealer will change the pads and rotor for free.
So in other country you have to pay for it? Or is it same as Japan for warranty?

i talked to a MB mechanic the other day and he said MB likes to change rotors and pads at the same time. No big surprise there. he did state the rotors are soft and of course can not be "turned" or refinished. we know that obviously. he said he thinks you could probably do rotors every other time if you were light and not abusive on them in your driving style. i find the car slows itself down by the engine and tranny more than previous vehicles i have had. whole new topic but just thinking that would have to save brakes as well.
