2011 C63 or 2010 E63 What would you do?? Need help.

Hi All,

Well this trunk money thing has thrown a wrench in my decision.

Background info:

I have a loaded 2011 C63 on order with P31, Lsd, CF Trim, etc. coming in about a month--the MSRP is $80K+.

Now that the E63s are being unloaded for $20K-$25K off MSRP, it means I can get a 2010 E63 for about the same money as my ordered 2011 C63.

So what would you do??
I've been lusting for the C63 for over 2 years, but the E63 is a great car.

I'd get a E63 with Performance Pkg, CF trim, etc.

I feel like the C63 is a more "fun" car and will be a little quicker all around with the P31 Pkg, but the E63 is bigger and much nicer inside.

I don't know what to do, please comment because I gotta make a decision so I can start

I would probably go with the E63 in this case. It's a very luxurious car.

If you have a family, E63 for sure. The C63 is VERY tight in the back seats. The C is faster, zippier and a bit more "manageble" in tight corners. I have driven both and I "felt" the road just a weee bit more in the C.

The E is pure awesome, bigger, beafier and brutal. I like the front of the E and the rear of the C. I am not a fan of the square exhaust tips. The front of the E makes me drool.

Are you a bigger guy? Where do you live? Do you have kids?

These are serious factors.

You guys aren't making the decison any easierhaha

Yeah I have a young family, but the car is not my DD, it will be for weekends, after work, that kind of thing.
The C63 is big enough for my needs (our family car is a 3 series BMW wagon, the C63 is actually bigger in the back seat) and I'm average build so I fit fine in the C.

My worries about he E63 is that it IS a bigger car and may not drive the way I wanted--I'd have to drive the car--my other concerns is that the E has been sitting for a long time at the dealerships, over winter in most cases and that just doesn't sit well with me. Plus, I've wanted the C63 since it came out and now I'm a month away from driving one and pooof this trunk money makes the E63 an available option at a very tempting price.
Plus, the fact that I won't be getting a great deal on the 2011 C63 makes me feel like the E63 is the better buy financially

I never test drove the E63 because it was out of my price point and I was already spending too much for the C63 IMO--so I guess I'll have to drive the E63 to find out for sure.

There's no doubt that he E63 is a classier, more comfortable car with a much better tranny and a brand new design--I just don't want to look back and say "God I wish I got that C63"

And for some reason I feel like I would keep the C63 for a long time, but the E63 I feel like I'm telling myself it will make a good trade-in (money wise) after warranty is up because I'm getting the trunk money now.

I'll have to check youtube for E63 exhaust videos to make sure it sounds as good as the C63 too! $*****t, what a problem to have

Don't buy something in the hopes of trading it in. That's like going into a dating relationship (when you weren't married) and looking forward in breaking up. Thats depressing.

The C will thrill you. It's what you have had your heart set on. Don't get the E because of a financial decision because you will in essence not love it each time you drive it and your eyes will wander the roads always looking for a C and admiring it. The C you are getting is made for you. You picked all the options you want. Each time you get in you will think that this was made just how I liked it. Money in the end REALLY wont matter as long as you have what you want. Those who paid 4 or 5K more when they got their C, trunk money or not, are not sitting around stabbing themselves whishing they would of waited or wheeled and dealed for three hours more until the dealership started hating their guts, and the experience becomes a sour one....You want to make a nice purchase, a fair price especially when you are getting exactly what you want, one in which the memory will always put a smile on your face...

You will be driving an AMG Benz. A few grand here and there for what you REALLY want should not be a killing issue for the people who are purchasing these cars. GET WHAT YOU WANT.

You know the feeling huh??? Yeaaah you know what I'm talking about...

There are some changes in the 2011 versus the 2010 E63s. I'd be sure that you can live without them first. Also be sure you like the MCT (it's not a real dual clutch automated manual. I think that will come soon, however.)

Maybe you can cut the same deal with the 2011 E63 (although I don't know exactly what incentives are out there or what the trunk money is specifically that your talking about; is it on 2010 left overs only?)

I love my C but I'd take the E63 anyday over the C63. You really can't go wrong w/either one though.

Lots of good points and that's kinda how I'm feeling right now.
The discounts on the 2010s is just so tempting--I'm going to test drive an E63 this coming week and see what I feel like after Ithrash it a little

I just remember my first test drive of the C63 and I never thought I could afford a car that would get me that excited--911 Turbo, I'm sure it drives unbeliveable and an F430, of course it's awesome--but this little four door has something about it that doesn't disappoint!
I'll have to see what the E63 does for me, I test drove a 2009 E63 and it was nice inside and fast, but felt a little old-manish and floaty--I want a car that sticks to ground

E63 should be a better choice due to the 7 speed MCT transmission

I'd take the E63 AMG in a heartbeat. It's more comfortable, luxurious, and more power. To be honest with you, my C63 is bone shattering especially when going through bumps.

I personally think the C63 is better suited for me than an E63 (size and absence of air suspension) but the E63 at 20K less would give arguably better value for money. and the MCT is also a very good upgrade.

This indeed would be a tough decision Think it really depends on the intended use of the car and only you can answer that. Good luck either way please post pictures when you get it

The W212 E63 does not have AIRMATIC. C218 CLS63 will, however.

The E63 is a great car - not nearly as nimble and fun as the C63, but it is great for a comfortable ride that can also handle the twisties. Interior is leaps and bounds above the C, while the exterior is slightly too sedate (IMO). Based on your post, since you don't need "utility", I think you'll find the C63 to be more enjoyable for short blasts and carving turns.

If you do go with the E63, make sure you get the 19s. The 18s are just awful.

Totally agree with your opinion, but I'll reserve total judgement until I drive the E63

I think the C and the E are totally different cars and I chose the C over the E for various reasons. I wanted a smaller vehicle, for one, and one that was less frills and more raw than the E. To me, the E felt a little sofa-like. Not much different in price. I could have gotten an '08 E63 for about $8-10K more than the C63 so that wasn't much of a factor.

It boils down to which car you like best and which one will better suit your needs and desires. Can go wrong either way.

The W212 E63 still has air suspension in the rear.

The 18s are actually much more comfortable.

I was pro the E63 until I was invited to an AMG event where we got to trash the C, E and SLS back to back and I can only repeat what was stated above. While the E was more exclusive inside and a better cruiser it was also a boat compared to the C.

So I guess it boils down to what you want out of this weekend car. If you are looking for a nimble car to throw around some corners then it's the C. If you are more calm/relaxed and looking for the near ultimate cruiser then it's the E.

Before my C I was driving the CLS63 and my business partner is today driving the CL63 so I have driven the premium AMG segment extensively (sans the S63). Changing my CLS63 to the C63 and upgrading with a K2 package was the best decision I ever made.

As a side note my family hauler is an X5 and I have a young family so I am somewhat in the same boat as you.

Best of luck with your decision.

Thanks guys for the replies--I'm still leaning toward the C63 for all the reasons stated, plus I don't like buying leftovers as a rule because I feel like they have been sitting around in the elements and who knows how many test drives (customers and workers) have been thrashed on it.

I will drive the new E63 to see if it drives the way I suspect and see how I feel driving it--as a rule, I typically like smaller cars that are more fun to throw around.

It's just that deal thing that makes the E63 seem so enticing right now, but there's a good saying about how the "sweet price is soon forgotten" and I'm afraid I might end up feeling like I got a good deal, but not the car I wanted.

If only my dealer would take another $5000 off my 2011 C63, it would make the descision easier!! Are you listening??

I'm not in a position to make a smart move right now, but I have been lusting over the C63 since before it was released. That said, I'd probably be leaning towards an E63 today. Nicer interior, more rear room, better transmission.

Outside I like the front end a little more on the E63 but I prefer the tails on the C over the E.

Sounds like you should go and test drive the E63 before finalizing your decision.

Well, I drove the E63 today.

My impressions:
Awesome car, the interior and tecnology blows the C63 away (but we all knew this already)
I especially like the inflating bolsters as you corner, very weird at first, but really cool technology--there's a setting that allows you to leave them inflated fully or let them inflate as you drive into corners, cool stuff.
All around more luxurious, the seats have AC, massage, etc, etc.
The larger size doesn't feel unruley at all and it handled surprisingly well for such a large car (in comparision to the C63).

The exhaust is nice, but the C63 is more raw and better sounding IMHO.
I did enjoy hearing the "farting" at shift points with WOT from 0 to 130MPH Amazing get up and go.

The cons for me are the price (dealers not willing to dip below $80K YET on a $98K MSRP)
The rear of the car is quite plain and I DO NOT like the sheild like thing in the grill for some techo BS--it looks really weird in person IMO.

So money wise both dealers I spoke to will not admit to "trunk money" but they both offered me around the same amount off on cars that are almost identical in price--one dealer was taking $14K off and the other was around $13K.

So there's defintely something MB is kicking back to them because with invoice and holdback the maximum the dealers have in the cars is around $10K (according to my research)--so the other $3-4K is coming from somewhere.
If in fact the trunk money is out there the dealers are not releasing it all right now (good move actually) until they get very desperate.

And I'm sure if I took out my check book the price will drop another couple grand.
So, I'll have to wait and see what happens with E63 prices between now and when my 2011 C63 arrives--I think for even money or even a grand or two more, the E63 is the choice for me, but at almost $10K more, I'm happy with my NEW the little C!

I think you should go with a C63. This is the car you always wanted, and a C63 is just as fast with a mild tune as a E63. And if you want more luxury, buy a Designo C63.

I would NOT buy the 2010 E63 right now at all. The new twin turbo version is coming out in less than a year, which will drive the prices of the 2010 E63 down to the gutter regardless of how good of a discount you initially get. The twin turbo model will be much quicker, faster, and more mod friendly. If you need a car now and really want a good NA engine, stick with the C63 for now. If you can wait one more year, go for the twin turbo E63, which by all indications right now, will be a heck of a beast.
