can you use window tint to smoke tail lights?

i was reading through some threads and was wondering if this is what is usually done.

i know there are a few methods but i liked the tint/film idea because it can be removed. but is it a good idea to tint on the exterior? will it last?

if this isn't a good idea, i may buy a set of tails to get smoked and keep my oems...

any suggestions or ideas?

oh, and i'm only looking to tint/smoke the red portion of the tail lights. not dark dark though.

where is the proper place to take your tail lights to have them professional smoked? body shop? lighting expert? tint shop?

You can use film if you want. You could also use VHT Nightshades. It's tint spray. I went with the film on my tails and the spray on my mirror turn signal. Which ever way you decide to go it always comes out better after a polish.

interesting...

after taking a closer look at my tail lights, i think it might be hard for someone to tint just the red part from the outside... it could just be me. i cringe thinking they will have to cut it along the lines. and what about how long it will last in the elements?

how long have you had yours on your tails?

The cutting is kind of unavoidable when you go with film. It stands up to the elements pretty good. Every now and then I just give it a good polish with Meguiars plastic x. I have had these on for a couple weeks but I have an extra set blacked out with film.
