If under 30 years old get the GTR if over get the C63! Just kidding, but I will say that the GTR has a horrific maintenance schedule with super expensive, only available at the dealer, fluids. And not to mention the custom tires made only for the GTR! To me if its a daily driver, maintenance shouldn't be a big deal. The C63 eats rear tires up, but at least you have options on tire brand.

On the other hand, the GTR is still a rare beast, at least you won't see yourself coming and going like you would in a C class. Either way I think you win as they are both awesome cars.

That is the reason why i didnt go for the GT-R. Its an amazing car and i would love to own one. But the maintenance cost would just burn a big hole in my wallet.

I still dont get what people see in the Nissan to be honest... It all comes down to if you want a very fast plastic car, or a refined german sports sedan.

I went back and forth and went C63 for the stealth factor, relative simplicity, normally aspirated motor, and a little bit of German snobbishness. However, FWIW, I went with a friend to the Nissan dealer the other day, and while he was in the servcie area I started chatting with a sales guy and had him to $8K off MSRP on an ordered car...that was just asking "c'mon how much would I really have to pay?" So I assume you could do much better on an in-inventory car and if you were ready to stroke a check.

Not to mention how eager Nissan is to void your warranty at any opportunity. I walked away from a GTR sale after we sat down and I was handed all the ridiculous paperwork, wavers. They include a launch mode, but if you use it, all data is logged (time, date, and if I've heard right, GPS location) so that it may be used to deny warranty coverage. I know GTRs in Japan use GPS to detect when you are on a race track, and turns off the limiter. It stated that turning off the traction control may be used as grounds for voiding the warranty...

My main question is: why build a car that is meant for racing/track days and then punish buyers when they use it for that purpose. C63 warranty doesn't care where a mechanical failure takes place, afaik.

Another problem is that a GTR basically drives itself. Very little driver involvement, all computers/differentials. At slow speeds, it feels like a louder, rougher 370Z. And at the end of the day, you're sitting in a Nissan/Infiniti interior. You're basically paying for a bargain supercar, that you're not allowed to drive as a supercar. For that money, you're close enough to ZR1 territory if you want a supercar that the manufacturer intends for you to track and encourages it. Or a 911 for that price if you want to go more towards the luxury side.

You have to sign away too much freedom to buy a Nissan GTR. You don't get to enjoy it without worrying about it breaking and not being covered. Most enthusiasts have wised up and avoided them, which is a reason there's only going to be 500 shipped to the US this year.

Its only my opinion, but if you were willing to sign all that fun over to the dealer, and pay the markups, you only bought a GTR because of the name/status...or you are rich enough to pay out of pocket for repairs.

GTRs are a good 20-30k more that a C63, which makes the argument kind of moot/academic. The alternatives to a GTR (in terms of performace, practicality, price) are a Lotus Evora, Corvette ZR1, Carrera S, etc.

Well that is where my problem comes in. The GTR is at $80k plus taxes and fees (to buy it). The C63 is over $70k with the P31 package, multimedia, full loaded, etc. So, for $10k, is the GTR a better choice? That is the decision I'm dealing with.

I thought I decided yesterday and called my Mercedes dealer and told him to hunt me down a car. Either Black or white with black interior. P31 package, full loaded, etc. He told me there is 1 left in the country, and it would be more expensive than the original $994/lease he quoted me (2010 with taxes and fees up front). First off, I don't believe there is only 1 left in the country. Secondly, I asked when we originally started talking to price me out a FULLY LOADED car. Now, all of a sudden it is going to be more expensive? I feel like I was a bit mislead.

If the lease comes out to more than $1k/month, I'm getting into GTR territory, and then I don't know if the C63 deal becomes worth it.

Dealer just called me back and said the new price is $1255/month. Which is about $250 more than he originally quoted me.

My problem now is that for another $50/month, I can own the GTR.

GTR is a much more technical advance than the C63 and also it is more exclusive. C63 is also more a sport sedan than a real sport car.

If I am single with no kid today, I would definitely get a GTR especially if the price is right. Sadly, I am driving a R500 in realty hauling my two younger kids while they are watching "Toy Story".

We are pretty much sitting in standard C-Class fare, save the seats. Tough to overlook the modding potential of the GTR. A friend of mine sold his GTR because of maintenance and warranty fears and went with a 2010 E63.

What a silly thing to say. The GTR is every bit as well put together as any C or E class AMG. The GTR is a hallow car. It has a unique architecture and it's not based on some $30k entry level, luxury car like the C63.

That being said.... OP if it is a DD go with the C63. I think that AMG does daily commuting best.

Now thats really funny!! There is an honest 100rwhp gain with L/T headers and a tune with the C63 so its far from being "done" out of the box. These cars are a blast to drive and probably one of the best, if not the best motor AMG has ever produced.

The GT-R gets a 100 awhp gain from a tune alone. Nuff said.

No matter what the GT-R is in a league of its own. With a few basic mods it would complete dominate the C63 (Even a moded one). I own a C63 but if i had the chance i would trade it in for a GT-R in a heartbeat.

Boost, how do you compare your GTR and C63? Daily driving wise and build quality? Another concern I have with the GTR is ive heard it starts rattling after a while. Is this true? Especially driving 20k miles/year, I don't want to be in a rattling car for $80k.

Kyle!! One more time. Do not get a GTR as a DD. It is a very desirable car but very focused. Its forte is not as a commuter. If your budget is for one car that's in the 60-90K range, then get the C63. You will be sorry if you get the Nissan.

So save yourself 20K, get a C63 and enjoy numerous lap dances with the coin that you save.

I would say it is the best motor amg ever produced and it is the best engine among any other competitors (X5m engine, ferrari V12, bmw V10 nothing comes close to 63 amg).
This is the reason why it got for second time in a row this year award for best performance engine with more then 90 points difference between the first and second placed. The second was obivously 3.8 liter porsche N/A(Most powerfull per liter NA engine.)It indeed is a masterpiece amg produced. No freaking one can really name an engine that is better then 6.2 liter amg motor.

um, what?

The c63 has the same hard plastic everywhere that the GTR does. The GTR though, does have some leather on the dash.

The C class is not luxurious, period.

Very true especially with the new/upcoming release of R1K package! Veyron territory!
