C63 or GTR

I'm on the search for a new daily driver and I've narrowed it to a C63 and GTR.

I've test driven both. I'd lease the C63 or buy the GTR.

I drive about 20k miles/year.

I'm looking for personal opinions of either owners of both, or people who have some significant seat time in both.

Thanks for the help!

Best,
Kyle

I have both. Go with C63 if for daily drive!! Do you find the 1st to 2nd shift a bit jerky on GTR?

I didn't find the c too fast, but I didn't get on it. I am sure I am missing something!

I didn't find any shifting too rough...is it?

Why do you think the C is more comfortable than the GTR for daily driving?

I can't say I have significant seat time in either but I have been in both and IMO if its your daily driver you should DEFINITELY go with the C63. The GTR has an interior that is very much like plastic where as the C63 comes with supple leather and other luxurious options. If you are looking to blow the doors off everyone then obviously go with the GTR. There is a company out there called AMS performance (not related whatsoever to the guy who posts on this forum) that makes a kit that is pretty much ALL bolt on that will have you running sub 10 second 1/4 miles. IMO if it is your daily go with the luxurious AMG.

Here is a video of the companies GTR running a 9.89 1/4 mile and its all street legal. It looks SCARY fast, look at the 2 second head start it gives the car its racing and still KILLS it

The shifting is not smooth at all. I avoid that by starting in 2.
EVO X and M3 are much smoother.
You can find the C very fast after ECU modification. I would say it would be as fast as stock GTR.
After a few months, you would start to hear lots of rattling noise on GTR...haha

I get the feeling the GTR is a little on the 'cheap' side with interior. In both cars you are paying for the engine, but I think with the C you get a bit more.

C63 can't go wrong with a German built car

Japanese cars look good on paper but can't take the beating when you really get on it.

I would have mixed emotions about the two but I would go for the GT-R. I love the C63 but ive loved the GT-R ever since they came out with the R-33 Skylines. Ive been a fan of the GT-R for a long time.

They are around $80,000-$100,000 new but there is also the GTR V-SPEC which is closer to $170,000

I was in a similar situation and have decided (but not yet pulled the trigger) on the C63. There are just too many horror stories about GT-R's and the it seems to be 50/50 driver/car problems. Sure you can get things under warranty and all that, but I'd very much like a car that I can just enjoy and not worry about all that non-sense.

@simonlam168 you may want to have a look at this, if you have not done so already. I know you're (probably) not in the UK, but it's something I found during my research regarding GT-R shift 'problems'.

http://www.litchfieldimports.co.uk/n..._servicing.asp

Transmission Clutch settings

The design of the GTR’s clutch and transmission requires inspection and adjustment of the clutch and shift forks at the recommended intervals. Depending on driving conditions, more frequent adjustments may be necessary to help maximize vehicle performance. Some JDM owners have reported poor shift and transmission performance at low vehicle speeds. This alignment procedure will help improve this.

Wheel Alignment

After what Nissan terms as the suspension components "break-in", the GTR’s wheel alignment needs to be measured and adjusted. We can offer a full adjustment using the latest laser alignment equipment.

Engine settings (balancing of air flow for left and right banks)

Engine settings (balancing of air flow for left and right banks) Each cylinder bank on the GTR engine operates independently due to the vehicle's twin turbocharger design. As such each side of the engine must operate at the same level of performance. The power output of each bank must be checked and adjusted as necessary. Our diagnostic equipment allows us to perform this task.

These Optimisation inspections are required at the following intervals: 1,000 miles, 12 months, 24 months and 36 months. These are in addition to the normal servicing procedure required by the Nissan GTR.

Looks like the GTR will spend more time getting "regular" servicing at the dealer than it will in your garage or on the street. Thats another + for the C63... N/A vs Turbo. Clearly the N/A should give less headaches. There are a couple guys on here that have done some small tasteful mods that brought their C63 to GTR speeds so again the C63 is the clear winner regarding the daily driver debate IMO

I just bought a 2009 gtr prem, red exterior and white interior with 9,000 miles on it for 59,000 with tax , and the car is super clean, that said

So the prices of the gtr is not as high as they were before,

When it comes to power only I would go with the gtr, but that's it,

when it comes to exhaust noise , navigation, sound system, comfort , luxury , daily use , bucket seats, name ( I mean amg ) , details of the car it's all the c63

And this is coming from a guy that drives bought cars as daliy use,

And sorry for my English I know it's not that great because it's my second language

So there we have it from a guy who owns both... go with the C63 for the DD

P.S. $59,000 on a used GTR is still a SCREAMING deal... around my neck of the woods they are still going for $70,000-$80,000 + TAX

Forgot to mention the gear in the gtr is crap, by that I mean the car is super jerky specially when stop, and ther are weird clicing noise comen from the clutch, and let me tell you it's not my car only, I took it to the dealer and they checked evrey thing and they told me that noise is really normal, but I wasn't satisfied because I hear all the bad stories about the gtr transmition , so the let me test drive a 2010 brand new gtr and i was surprised that it was exactly the same,
The funny thin is that yesterday I was driving pass by a bunch of guys and first thing they said is sick gtr, then one of the shouts , hey dude your car is falling apart, I went back to him thinking that I hit some thing or something is falling from my car, and when I asked him what did you mean by that did you see anything, he said no but do you hear that noise coming from under your car, I told him yes and that's a normal noise due to the twin clutch noise, but onse you drive of and the clutch locks it gose away,

And the car buy the way breaks your back from how rought it is.

But let me admit the car gets a lot of attention, more than the c63.

I had to laugh at the "car falling apart" comment and then when I read that you actually went back to ask if something came off the car I blew snot. I agree about the GTR getting more looks.... The C63 is a little more common than the GTR, I have only seen 3 GTR's driving around where I live. I went to the MB dealership and they had 3 C63's just sitting there on the show room floor plus 2 in the bay getting worked on. The C63 is a little more subtle, just a little. Don't get me wrong the C63 looks like a beast but the GTR looks like a RACE CAR.

Very interesting, especially the comments from the GTR AND C63 owners.

When I ran the numbers, it is basically a wash if I buy the GTR and sell it in 3 years (I assume I can get around 50% of the original buy price), or if I lease the C63 for 3 years. So, numbers wise, it doesn't matter. Just a matter of which is best for me and my uses. I also need to take into consideration that I used to daily drive an E46 M3, and then a 645Ci Convertible. I missed my M3 so much because I enjoyed modding the car, and working on it. I'm worried that the C63 is basically "done" out of the box. Whereas the GTR can always be a work in progress.

Have you researched the cost for a brake job??? A car magazine paid over $7000 for a brake job and service on their test vehicle!

If you can handle the 2 doors and you like modding your car (from post above), and if somehow it is a wash financially (I find that hard to believe), then the GTR has to be the choice. With only a couple of grand of mods, you will 99% of the time be the king of the hill (not too many cars can outrun a low 11s car).
It also does get noticed quite a bit more if that is a factor for you.
The C63s are pretty much stealth (I personally like that better) until you floor it (one advantage for the C).
Bottom line is that if you have driven both, your heart should be set right now as both cars are somehow on a different level.
Don't let the forum steer you towards something else. Let your intuition drive your purchase.
