More Questions about my 2011 C63 saga--How many miles on yours when new?

Hi Guys,

Obviously the title speaks for itself.
But my question is aimed at those of you who ordered your car or had it shipped directly from the Vehicle Processing Center.

BACK STORY: Long story short, I ordered a 2011 C63 back in May and it was suppose to be here at the end of July, but the production date kept getting pushed back--now it won't be here until mid -Sept at the earliest.
I've been talking to another dealership about getting me anohter car with essentially the same options and we found one last week at the VPC and he brought it in for me.
The only option this car doesn't have that the one I ordered is the Carbon Fiber Trim--but we agreed to have it installed at he dealership with OEM CF for the price from the factory.

The reason I ask the opening question is that the car from dealer 2 just came in today from the VPC for me to consider and it has 11 miles on the clock.
I know this is a picky **** thing, but I wanted to know if this is a normal amount or was someone joy riding the thing before I showed up today to look at it?

Also, I noticed that the car had a very minor crease in the rear door panel (door ding), obviously the dealer is having a paintless dent remover work the dent out and there is no paint damage at all.
I've had three door dings taken care of over the years and this is more minor than any I had fixed, so I'm sure it will be okay.
Something doesn't feel right in my gut about having a BRAND NEW car already fixed for a ding.
Am I being way too picky--is this a big deal, what do you think.

I'm getting a pretty fair deal for this car, but the miles, door ding and the dealer installed CF Trim is just making the deal a little to complicated considering I could wait another month and half for the one I ordered (assuming it doesn't come in damaged).

Opinions?

...11 miles is nothing. I've bought M3s (with a significant discount) that have had 200-400 miles on the odo from the dealer. One of those is my '02 that now has 89,000 miles, have had no problems, and runs great. 11 miles is just silly. Nothing has happened in 11 miles on a dealer car from a respectable dealership. The ding would be more of an issue, but don't sign the paperwork until its unnoticeable/perfect. The current trunk money incentive may not be available in Sept though.

Give me 11 miles in a brand new car and I'll show you how much I can tear it up.

If your gut feeling tells you to stay away from it... I suggest you do it.

Which is why I said, "respectable dealer." No self respecting dealer would let a AMG car loose without a salesman with anyone but a repeat buyer. Depending on where the dealer is, that 11 miles may be from simply filling up the gas tank, detailer.

I'd be far more concerned about the door ding than the 11 miles. I've never bought a car with less than 11 miles on it and I've bought probably 20 new cars. Par for the course. Damage is another story.

11 miles is nothing, it's more than brand new! You should be more worry about the door ding... I'm very picky, so I would wait to see how well they fix the ding before I sign... and ask for the best deal for all the troubles. Or else, wait for the 2011 with the options you want.

I AM sick and super picky also. But to worry about 11 miles? Mine had 11 miles and it was in the showroom the whole time...

Your lucky to see 11 miles. Usually they have 60-80 miles WHICH STILL ISN'T A MUCH AT ALL, and they are sometimes on the lot outside. I went looking at 2010 leftovers because I am going to trade up and as I went to look at the car it was hot as hell from being stored outside in the sun (obsidian black) and from some chick test driving it a second earlier. The car had 62 miles on it. NO BIGGIE.

Thats just rediculous. Drive for 5 minutes and you will already be at 9 miles...

WHAT COLOR ARE YOU GETTING? Some colors are eaiser to repair and show no marks...

Yes
11 miles is nothing, dont worry about it man.

As for the door ding, that would **** me off, and I would ask the dealer for some kind of compensation for it. Free wheel & tire protection, $500 off, etc. That would bug me. I want a 100% perfect car, not a PDR'd car off the bat.

11 miles is no issue at all. Mine had 18 miles on it. The ding could be case of poor handling from RORO shipping, truck transport or someone getting sloppy at dealership doing prep. See how the fix goes.
On the CF trim I would take a pass on it and save the $. You can get better deal from likes of MACarbon, DCT etc. DCT was 50% of the cost of the OEM CF trim and I got more pieces than OEM. IMHO the OEM CF trim is a huge rip-off.

Mine was straight off the boat with 12 miles. I watched it come into the dealer on the truck from port. Don't worry about the mileage.

Hi Guys,

Thanks for so many responses--the car came right off the truck about an hour before I got there, it was no prepped yet and still all plastic inside and tape on the doors.

Glad to hear that 11 miles is somewhat normal--the ding bothers me too.
Part of the reason I "wanted" to pay for a brand new off the boat 2011, as opposed to a leftover 2010 (with trunk money), is that I wanted an unmolested car that had everything I wanted, no more, no less.

The way I look at it is I'm spending a lot of money, for me at least, on a car I've wanted for two years--it should be perfect when I pick it up.

I haven't totally made up my mind yet, but last night I had a sick feeling in my gut that I should pass on this car and wait the month and a half for the one I ordered!

For the record, the car is blk/blk with P31 and every other option except keyless go, I don't see the worth in the keyless go, but that's for another day and anohter thread!

I'll keep you posted on my decision!

I have been down this road before.. The month or so wait, is nothing to the anguish you will feel for the 2-3 years or so you own a car with second thoughts. By the way i have a Blk/blk with P31 and Keyless, and I really like the keyless

I must also add that I think it is a mistake not to take a 2010 and the trunk money....10-14K is not chump change.

I don't disagree with you.

If you can find me a brand new 2010 blk/blk w/ P31, carbon fiber trim, and LSD, among the other usual goodies--I'd buy it in aheart beat with the trunk money--there's one problem---IT DOESN'T EXIST

I searched for a 2010 back in May with three dealers looking across the country and we couldn't find an exact match--that's one of the reasons I ordered the 2011!

I plan to keep this car long term, so in the scheme of things it's not a total nightmare finacially--plus, part of the reason the 2010s are so cheap right now is they are already a year old and take a much harder hit when you drive off the lot compared to a 2011--they get you coming or going--very rarely do you truely get a "free lunch"

I got an obsidian with PP (no carbon) from a MA dealer 2 weeks ago. (had to go out of state to get it). I agree there was little to choose from nationwide from cars with PP.

I love my car so far. 879miles. almost time to drop the limited slip fluid!

See you on the Pike!

What I like!
Mine had 11 miles when I picked it up. This included the dealer driving it to the gas station to fill it up.

Both of the cars you're considering are brand new, fresh off the truck. It doesn't get any better than that! I didn't realize they were still shipping 2010s..... that could be quite a find if you get a great deal. I'd take the fresh 2010 with trunk money. You said you want to keep it a long time. By paying more for the 2011 you're going to lose more in depreciation over time. Unless 2011 is the final year for the C63 (and I don't think it is) then it won't be worth any more than a 2010 in the long run.

As far as a ding... you could park it two hours after you buy it and get a ding. The dealer's fixing it and there's no paint damage. So no big deal, aye!

One other thing to consider... which dealer is closer to you? If you're keeping a long time and planning on dealer service, you might want to buy from the one where you'll be taking it.
