Factory brakes on non-PP car...

Why the humongous cost for OEM rotors for the non-PP C63? They appear to be one-piece drilled rotors and nothing real special. Why the $600 per rotor price tag? Just 'cause it's AMG?

And, what rotors appear in this pic? Anyone know?

That is the 2 piece or so called "compound" rotors. Those come with the PP. That price isnt bad, the stealership would charge $1400 for a set.

Getmercedesparts.com sells them for less (I think $450ish) than the ebay guy. I still don't know why a one-piece rotor is so damn expensive. Not much different than the drilled rotors on my old C350 and they were under $100 each. AMG, sure. But is that the only reason?

If you drive the car hard or track it and think you'll be changing them often, switch to Evosport lightweight 2 piece rotors. Cheaper to buy and replace disks, lighter, better, I don't see a reason why you should buy the stock ones again... Is it a rental?

Nope. Not a rental. Just drive it around town and on the highway like a normal middle-aged dude would do. Just can't stomach $1,000 in rotors when there's no more to them than your run of the mill $150 rotots.

None fast enough!
I think that chief's point is that ours are better and CHEAPER than stock. FYI, if you can find a high quality 2-pc rotor with hat for $150 for any car, I would be very surprised.

Thanks
Brad

I was not saying I could get 2-piece rotors comparable to yours for $150. What I was saying is that I can get one-piece rotors for my old C350 that look pretty darn close to the one-piecers in my C63 for $150 a pair. Why are the one-piece C63 soooo GD expensive? Just the AMG gouge?

Well the C350 doesn't have 14" and 13" rotors. These are pretty huge. My main concern is maintenance and performance. I don't want to pay 4000$ everytime I change my disks and pads. This is why having a 2 piece rotor makes sense.

Brad can you please post exact disc replacement costs for the 2 piece rotors (disc only, front and back prices)? Would be great info.

Well, you are right about that. But they're not 7" rotors either. I could see maybe $275-300 for OEM for the C63 but $700 each is f'ing gouging no matter how you slice it. Are production costs for the C63 rotors really 6x that of the C350? Are they even 3x? Probably not. But they're 6x more expensive.

On my race civic Si I could get 4 brembo discs for 100$, the price is really exponential the bigger you go...

The evosport discs are 289$/each to replace, that's extremely decent considering this is about the third of the price of OEM discs.

See the initial 2000$ as a performance upgrade (40lbs of rotating mass is huge and can be felt big time).

take care

At $300 apiece, I'll definitely be going the Evosport way. Factory pads recommended at $300 a set for fronts?

Cool stuff. I don't remember how much the stock pads are, somewhere around 260 for the front and the 200 for the back, you will have to check but its around 500 for all 4 corners. Evosport can provide the OEM pads to you at a competitive price, the back pads can also be the CLK 63 black series ones. Fronts are the same for the C63 and CLK63.

take care

Hey Chief....

In Canada, you can get your brakes replaced (including rotors) under warranty for the first 2 years.....

Hey guys, we have the Black Series front and rear pads in stock. As Chief said, the Black Series and C63 share the same front pads. We sell the fronts for $280 and the rears for $160

Dale, when would the 390mm of Evosport rotors be ready. I believe 390mm is a straight swap on the stock caliper too...

This guy is in Phoenix and basically builds anything a la carte(what ever you want custom made). It would be worth contacting him.

I personally could care less about the braking. I would replaces my rotors with something like this($133 front and $86 rear):

There you go. I'm all over those! If I keep this car long enough to need brakes, that is.
