New tires: Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta

After 8000km (5000 miles) my contisportcontact 5P rears were bald. Nobody had was stocking the 5P locally except the stealerhip @ 475 each. So I decided to give the Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta's a try. 245/40/18 @ $240 and 265/35/18 @ $270.

After 100 km so far so good. A full day at the track is coming up in 3 days, I will let you guys know if these are a well performing cheaper alternative to OEM tires.

The Vred's are great street tires for the price. They compare favorably to the OEM P-Zeroes and are a fraction of the cost. I actually got almost 5K miles out of the rears with them!

They're good, much better then my Sumitomos, which I had on prior. Suprised that after 18k miles, my front sumitomos are still going strong, they just aren't great tires. Backs lasted 12k.

Hey blackc230, how's the car treating you? Did you go to Calabogie couple weeks ago? What's your first impression of the track?

Funny - I too just replaced my Conti's for Vred's this Tuesday but went with 275/30/19.

Too early to give the final verdict but so far I am happy.

Who sells em... reputable, local would be nice (DC/MD area)... My rears are eaten.. I am sure someone who saw a post by me in the previous thread somewhere noting my stock pzero's seem to be getting good mileage will pipe up with an "I told you so".. heh.. they seemed fine for about 5k miles.. then rapidly wore out....

Watch your tires my friend.

New tires are a no no for track use, because they can chunk while driving in the corners, aka blocks can actually rip off the carcase.

Of course this only happens when driven hard

Also keep in mind that new tires take a few hundred miles to remove the releasing agent from the mold, aka they get grippier

Keep an eye on them for your own safety

Is there any update? Is Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta a good tire? I read very favorable reviews and the word is they are on par with Michelin PS2, but unfortunately there are not many reviews because Vredestein is not popular in the US.

I got about 7000 km out of the Vreds. Since they are much less expensive than the oem Pzeros or Contisport 5p I consider the vreds a good street tire.
Good:
Inexpensive
Smooth
Quiet
Decent grip for everyday needs dry and wet
Same treadlife as other tires (I get about 7000km out of rears)

Poor:
Not ideal for tracking the car. A little skidish.
Grip over 5000km worse than a 5000km OEM

Now I have Michelin PS2 and find the performance of these better than the vreds and contis.

also keep in mind that these tires run pretty narrow by comparison - so don't be afraid to go wide
