if you put your car in neutral and let it roll a little bit you can rev until the redline. If your in park it only revs up to 4k rpm i believe.

If the vehicle is in motion (shift it to N) you can rev past 4k for a short period of time.

I did not maintain pressure on the pedal, these were quick bursts, as noted previously to just showcase the monster engine the pops when the engine revs down is awesome.

That leads me to believe that the system is limiting based on motion, and not necessarily what gear (or position rather) you are in on the tranny.
^ Agreed
On the highway I sometimes shift to Neutral and rev just to showoff to people that hollar

For ppl bashing the OP, just take it easy... this topic could be interesting for some (like myself).

My salesman revved my engine on "Park" until I could hear a popping noise from my car just to show off... I always wondered if this could be bad for the engine? In addition, the same night of the delivery, I got a CEL for bad 02 sensor... could it be related?

HIGHLY HIGHLY doubt any realation. Your engine is fine, I PROMISE YOU. These things are pushed to red heat before placed. All the care during break in is for the transmission, NOT THE ENGINE. I had 2 O2 sensor light in the first week. Just a pain in the ***. These cars have very very sensitive sensors.

Don't worry Roswell.

What I like!
The higher you rev the engine in "P", the longer your ***** will be when you grow up.

I guess this explains why...... oh, never mind.

Thanks a million Zephyr... you're the best as usual... hahaha! I was just worry about revving the engine on a brand new car w/o breaking in the engine first.

Just wanted to put this thread to bed.

The rev limiter in park is 6500, not 4k.

Tried to get my car to pop and crackle and it seems indeed IS a limiter 4k or 4.5k and it cuts the accelerator. Even I try to floor it Or 2nd rev it to pass 4.5k after limiter kicked in. It wouldn't let me. 2019 c63s in park.

I "accidently" revved my engine in P and there was no limit at 4k rpm, it's a 13' MY. did they remove this limit or is my ECU modified without me knowing?

well my 2000 SLK55 has a rev limiter at like 4k-4500 ish but my 2012 CLS63 n my brother’s CL63 doesn’t have a problem revving up to like 6k in park you know for friends n what not...also just again for friends and what not there wouldn’t be a way that I could get rid of the rev limiter or anything on the SLK can i?
