tipps

Back when I was a kid, the first thing I would look at were the exhaust pipes ....the more tips....the engine had to be bigger , at least in my 10 yr old mind.
The next think I'd check was the speedometer....American cars were the stuff at the time..GTOs had 140mph, Dodge Chargers=140 and the mighty Vette had a 160 mph clock....I guess thats another thread..lol

I have to admit, I like the IS F tips.

You're aware that on one is a "dummy" exhaust tip on each side, right?

Its so ugly IMO. All stacked and ricey...

The whole point is to release the exhaust and dissapate further heat. Whats the point of staking and heating the lower exhaust more? STUPID.

LEAVE THAT AT THE ISF FORUM.

Didn't know half are dummies. And Zephyr, it was merely a stylistic comment, so let's not start a functionality pissing match as your Xterra will be choking on the dust from my Raptor. Hahahaha -

LOL I don't doubt it justthebest...I was just being smart. I know when to raise the white flag when it calls for it. But are you suggesting my 2010 Xterra is "non functional"?

All joking aside, I know the raptor is one hell of a pick up. The Xterra is actually an awesome all around SUV thats actually does really well modded and the new V6 engine kicks some nice *** in power...

It is amazing that in Toyota's first attempt to tackle the M3 and C AMGs with a saloon built for the enthusiast, they had the bright idea to garnish the vehicle's exhaust system with disconnected tips. When I first saw the IS-F's exhaust in Car and Driver I really did think it was neat. But after release I came to the unsettling realization that the IS-F tips were floating and that the IS-F actually had a modest looking quad-exhaust behind the faux tips. Needless to say I was sadly disappointed, but more than that, disenchanted. How does Toyota expect to win any M or AMG owners by taking shortcuts in build design?

I think the Xterra is a great all-around vehicle. And best of all, you don't have to choose between squeezing out of a half-open door and parking close to your destination! And the V6 will be buzzing by my 6.2 V8 all day long. Oh well - hope to see you out past the pavement

Actually with the E46 M3 Dinan found that a single dual exhaust set up with 2 dummy tips relieved more pressure then the OEM quad exhaust tips since the way the OEM Exhaust was designed there was a large chamber with 4 outlets which would create a bottleneck.

Quad tips are almost always purely cosmetic. But hell, they look sexy.

It's the last hurrah for exhaust tips, and they are gonna go out with style. When electric cars take over the world there won't be any more exhaust tips to make fun of. You car will sound like your girlfriends vibrator. I am guessing that the finale for the internal combustion engine will be the upcoming 2016 Bugatti SuperFrog SUV. It will have a quad-turbo W-16 in the front, and another one in the back just to make sure, for a total of 4000 hp, giving it a top speed of 260 mph. I hear it's gonna have exhaust tips running the entire length of the car on both sides, with LEDs inside each tip so they glow at night. Because, remember, more is always better.

Yes, I know its been done.. as a single set of middle placed 3 in a triangle shape.

What I was hinting at was a triangle set on either side of the vehicle for a total of 6 rather then 3 and 3 straight across like the previous pic.

Was at the dealership this morning and they had a SLS there. I was suprised to see that the exhaust was not attached to the "tip" in the bumper that is visible. I tried to get it with my phone but it might be hard to tell.

Not hard to tell, perfectly easy to tell. I suspect the main reason has to do with vibrations. the square piece is connected and held in place by the bumper, the actual exhaust will vibrate quite a bit, having it attached to the square piece and in affect, the bumper, would cause the bumper to eventually come lose or break from fatigue.

Actually, what is really sad about the IS-F tips is how noticeable the fake exhausts are.

I was looking at one from a far in a parking lot...as I was walking towards it, I saw light pass through the back of the top exhausts...there wasn't really that much effort to hide the fact that it is fake. Really looks like a tasteless aftermarket job.

However the irony is that if dual exhausts are more efficient than quads...then the IS-F we are all making fun of actually has a more efficient exhaust than the quads we all love!

The Ferrari 458 was more of a hats off to the F40 which two were exhaust tips and the middle was a wastegate bov.
