Remote Start
Just got an email from my dealer about a remote start system that uses your existing factory key. I called them and they quoted me $1600! Is that a little excessive or worth it? At least it would be done by MB and have a warranty versus an aftermarket alarm shop.

Living in San Diego I dont see how this would be worth it to those living in mild-weathered cities. However, if you were in a city with harsh winters/summers, I guess I could see the benefit of starting your car before you get in and getting the AC/Heat going for a couple of minutes. But for $1600 (+tax and labor?) that sounds like not a lot of bang for your buck.

1600 seems steep, but its a fun option...
My escalade had remote start, it freaked people out when i started it up from a distance (especially unsuspecting people standing right next too it, haha), I had corsa exhaust with the muffler removed and replaced with straight pipes and JBA headers. So it was loud as hell. Maybe thats why it freaked out people.

digging up an old thread here, but wondering if anyone has actually had this remote starter installed? after this winter i'm really considering getting one installed at the dealer. i've never had a car with remote start before so I figured why not.. any issues? or general remote start issues i should know about?

I didn't have it installed for my C63, but I spoke with Mid City Engineering about their remote start. Their remote start works with the existing key also and you can start it with an app on your iphone or smart phone. I believe the price was around $1000. I think that's a better bargain than the one offered from the dealership.

the only reason i'm really hesitant is because it looks like no one has it, lol.

a dealer near me (not my usual dealer sent me an email a while back offering it for $1295.. not sure if they will still honor that price but if they do i'll be all over it. $300 more and don't need to worry about warranty or anything.

Actually...I think some people might have it, but on the regular W204 forum. I like it better than the factory one because I can start it with my iphone from anywhere. My friend was in New Jersey, but I needed to get something from his car in queens and he was able to unlock his car for me. That's an awesome function to have.

The fact that you can use your phone to control functions of your car.

We do the remote start using the factory Smart key for $1000.00 installed. You just hit the panic button once and it starts the car, It will run for 15 minutes.

To be honest I have only done 3 of them, we just started doing it a couple of weeks ago. I have a friend of mine who flys all over teh country showing the dealers how to install them and he comes in and does them for me. He has installed a lot of them and he says there are no problems. He does it pretty quickly but he says it usually takes someone who does it the first few times a long time. He has probably done 500 of them so he has it down to a science.
If anyones interested I can do it afterhours (around 7PM) at the shop and he will come down and throw it right in for you. Let me know.
