I did think of that, but I didn't want to scre it up. A red metal one would be cool.

cool idea--I haven't thought of that, but I'm game for trying something.
I wonder how much MB charges for the button piece alone?

You guys could try annodizing it. Perhaps take it to a nearby shop and see what they say. It'll probably cost you like 20 bucks to have it done.... relatively inexpensive.

MB charges $48.07 for a new one. Ebay has them for $20.00 - $25.00. I just painted mine. I will post pics tomorrow.

Lol, you can't just anodize anything, it can only be done on certain metals.

I want a Start button with a cover, like a Launch button on a joystick. Doesn't need to be red, doesn't need to be CF, matching wood will be quite satisfactory.

The first time I tried to reverse into a parking space at work, I killed the engine (must have been on the button as I shifted through N to R). I was not happy: "did my "new" car just die???"

I've actually managed to do it a few times. Putting the Start button on top of the shifter is cool-looking, but stupid from a human factors perspective.

i was surprised to see the keyless go for the first time in the c63... the actual start button just plugs into where the key would normally go... i would think the rest would be software related... oh yes, and the key of course...

and then there are the handles and proximity sensors to unlock the doors... but maybe if you didn't care about the other things, to at least start the car without pulling the key out would be fine...

at least it's not like the lotus where you put in the key, turn it, then press the start button on the left...

Dont care about unlocking the doors. I just want a button to press with the key in my pocket.

Reminds me, really cool Mbrace feature. Download the app on your iphone or other and you can lock, unlock and locate your vehicle with your phone.

I've got a carbon fiber start button that is backlit by an led with clear text that is lit and says "Playa...Makin' it happen". Also, the Dukes of Hazard theme song plays every time I hit the button.
