Have both the DW's and DWS's (live in the metro DC area). The DWS's are on the stock 18's and the DW's are on my summer set of 19's. Just last week drove up to Canada and put the DWS's back on after spending the whole summer on the DW's (the DW's are back on).
Observations:
1) straight line performance is similar - you'd be hard pressed to tell the difference.
2) I actually give the wet weather performance to the DWS's (the DW's are good - you just feel more planted with the DWS's)
3) NO WAY the DWS's compare to summer performance tires in the corners: the DWS's have softer side walls (which makes highway cruising much more enjoyable) but going from dedicated summer tires to AS, you will notice a difference in cornering (and not for the better). Caveat - after driving on the DWS's for a week or two - you don't notice because you have adjusted but if your MO is to strafe corners quickly, you will not be satisfied.
Both are great tires - just be really honest with yourself with your driving style (and capabilites). I just can't see MOST people coming anywhere close to consistently using the full capabilities of dedicated summer tires on THE STREET. They're nice to have for those "I'm pushing it" moments, but really, how often are those, where all things being equal, you're not putting other people in jeopardy. If you're doing track work, get a dedicated set of track wheels and don't compromise on tires. For the street - the DWS's are fine for the occasional "spirited" burst but you will be aware of and find the limits a lot sooner than, the DW's - both have really good wear ratings and I've seen minimal wear with both sets (about 12,000 miles on each).

You don't need xl tires. However you need to make sure that you stay with the same load rating or higher than the stock tires.
The fronts are 95y good for 1521 lbs.
The rear are 97y good for 1609 lbs.
Don't worry about the xl rating as long as the load rating is the same or better than what stock tires are.
You should however make sure they are at least "Y" rated (186mph).
I was looking at Nittos earlier and noticed all of their tires are "W" rated (168mph) or less.
Not got with them since I do some high speed runs at 170 mph plus.
The fronts are 95y good for 1521 lbs.
The rear are 97y good for 1609 lbs.

have they recently changed the load index on these tires? sorry if this sounds redundant, but it seems like tires are not rated for our car !!

The original tires are Front 95Y and rear 94Y. As long as you select and tire with the same or better load rating you will be fine.

I am getting ready to replace my stock tires after 5k miles and I did a search already to see if what high milage option tires are out there. So far in the 275/35/R18 I came up with
1.Michlin Pilot Sport A/S plus which has the 45k mile warrenty
2. Continental Extreme Contact DWS - 50k mile warrenty
3. Bridgestone Potenza RE960AS - 45k mile warrenty
I heard the conti have more road noise..anyone else have any recommendation on higher mileage tires as I dont really want to really them every 5k to 10k miles. I am not expecting the get anywhere near 45k miles but atleast if they go before that I can get some credit for them. Thanks
